Has anyone had any experience (good, bad or otherwise) with a Sciphone i68 or other cheap dual-sim phone?

I'm considering buying a cheap dual sim for occasional use, when I don't carry around two phones, but am really not sure whether they will be worthwhile.

I have low expectations of dual sims but wondered what people's experience has been. I have heard the Sciphone is a "reasonably" good copy, though I note it only has WAP/Internet access to email! Strange!

As long as you only want GSM on Vodafone or 2D it should be OK..

Types of Dual Sim : GSM+GSM, GSM+CDMA, GSM+(GSM/CDMA)

In the last type you can put either GSM or CDMA card in the slot.

You have many choices in the market. Spice, Karbonn, Fly are just to name a few. Newer entrants are Onida, Videocon. However do not go for chinese phone unless you are sure of the dealer from whom you will buy the phone.

Samsung will cost about 7k for their dual sim (GSM+GSM) phone

I have heard that Spice is launching a 5MP phone with dual sim (GSM+GSM)soon.

In the end it depends on which type of phone you need.

For about 2.2k you can get spice 4580. however it does not come with bluetooth.

? What currency is that...?

Personally I used a Sciphone i68 version for a few months, from a year or more ago ($250 off trademe at the time). It worked OK for general use, although the WAP/WEB based browsing was pretty limited (by memory), Google mobile helped with that. I was able to load a number of java apps, including Opera Mini so that might work OK for you.

The main problem with it was the texting, the touch sensitive typing was awful. Would recommend trying that out before buying. I've got a Nokia 5800 now which I'm much happier with :-) No longer need dual SIM.

And there is a Minmobile version apparently that does WCDMA and GSM concurrently (works on Telecom and Vodafone/2degress at the same time) but no dual WCDMA standby.

I have no more info.

Those clones are ok if you want to just have a basic basic phone but not all that stellar and build and batteries can be dodgy (but they often come with two) At least that one has a 1.3Mp camera.

For the extra $100 it would probably be a lot better than the cheap variants. At least LG is a reputable brand.

If anyone knows of that one or another that does Dual sims, Dual standby with at least one on WCDMA I'd be keen to know! IE XT and a support network (2degrees)

Okay, so am getting really sick of having two phones now and have bitten the bullet and ordered the i68+ (above in my first post). Gulp!!

Will post a bit of a review once I have received it and had a play.

Good luck getting a sciphone into the country. I tried just before Christmas and it never arrived. Luckily I got a full refund (including shipping).
