I'm going to Vietnam in April! Would I be better off taking my Vodafone... its just on a normal plan/best mate.; or should I look to grab an XT before i go? What brand gets better service in Vietnam? Voda or XT?

Thanks Luc x

Best bet (and what I did) is to get a local Sim Card,

Chances are it will only be on 2g, but for calling and texting that is fine

Bestmate, TXT2000, data bundles, included minutes are not valid for the connection roaming

You pay for all incoming calls (not if your phone is off)
incoming SMS no charge

According to Vodafone's site, local calls within Vietnam will cost 65c/minute off-peak and international calls (including back to NZ) at $1.50 off-peak. I have trouble believing that, but if it's right then it looks pretty good :)

Telecom is charging $5/minute.

That pricing is correct. Roaming can be exceptionally expensive in some countries and relatively good value in others.

The irony of roaming is that many countries actually cost more than they did 10 years ago!

I have been through various parts of Vietnam and my Vodafone mobile worked faultlessly everywhere.

Drop me a line if you want a few tips (depending on where you are going).
