I once made one up, a list of all the shortcodes, what company did them, the promo's they had and dates and the Cost per TXT.

does any list exist now and do you think the Telco's should be a bit more open about this? i be a lot of people have been burnt by texting away for a ringtones and finding a $7.50 charge.

Australia they are even more nasty, they can setup things to "subscribe" you automaticall when yo request a ringtone so you have to send another $4.50 SMS to unsubscribe from the $10 a month they charge to your account.

There are too many to list and not all are active even though they are allocated to a third party.

but that's still no excuse. They simply have to look at the database. there's a record SOMEWHERE. the charging is done on send to the shortcode, not if it's active or not. there are many which are "active" but when you message them they come back with errors like "database not found" or "promo finished" etc.

The short codes are assigned to a third party it is not up to Vodafone or Telecom to publish who has what and how much the service is.

That is the reason - it is not an excuse. Do you know of a published list for all the 0900 numbers in NZ?

I understood the T&C's of premium rate SMS's in NZ were similair to 0900 numbers where the price must be prominately displayed with the number.
