Is your S700i Vodafone Branded?

If so, you can't just use any old file you want (for example, a mp3) the mp3 has to be tagged by the Vodafone DRM software.

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I know others have encountered this problem with branded V800s and K700i's.

Actually copying the file to the phone is a trivial matter, I guess you're able to do that fine but can't figure out why it won't let you use certain files for ringtones?

hey muppet
its not a vodafone one, i got it in the uk.
i can easily bluetooth and download the mp4 onto the phone from my mac, but it automatically puts it in a sounds folder in my phone, and i have no way to play it in my ringtones.
Its odd because all the preloaded mp3 music in my sounds folder are my ringtones.
There doesnt seem to be any way to move things around on this phone.
Ill keep working on it.

Hey Impala,
The S700i should have a file manager on it, if its been customised by any provider they may have renamed it. (My Items in the case of Vodafone)

I can't recall though wether or not the S700i could play m4a's straight out of the box (I seem to recall the K700i's requiring a patch for this later on) so one thing you could do is pop onto the sony ericsson website and try an online update. (You'll need one of their syncstations for that)

As a test, convert the m4a you're trying to use to mp3 and see if it'll play that, if it does then it sounds like it was the same as the K700i. If it doesn't it could still be an issue of DRM (is the phone operator branded at all?) if it is then there's a few guides out there about using the Sony Ericsson drm packagaer to get around that. Try a search of Esato for further info on the DRM packager.
