Got a letter today saying...

Dear Customer

We're in the process of upgrading parts of our broadband network. As this work will have an impact on our ability to not charge you for TiVo data, this is to let you know that we're temporarily going to remove your data allowance limit.

This means from the week commencing 25 March 2013, your broadband usage meter will read '0' as your usage isn't being recorded. Please note that this is for your line only and does not apply to all customers.

We'll be in touch once our upgrades are complete. So you'll hear from us when the Broadband Usage Meter will begin recording your broadband usage again and any limits associated with your plan will reapply.

Unlimited internets !

ilovemusic did you purchase your TiVo through Telecom (on your phone account), from a Telecom store or from another retailer? Just wondering how they know you have a TiVo.

This is nothing new, Tivo customers have essentially been on unlimited plans for a long time now.

So if I take my TiVo across the road to the neighbours house her Telecom BB account will magically be unlimited?

AFAIK this was fixed circa November 2011 so no more unlimited from then.

No. It's linked to the account, not to the device.

Although any new tivo you buy, you should get it connected to your account, as the tivo device should qualify for unlimited data.I've had unlimited internet for some time, so it doesn't look like it is going to be fixed for some time. I did also get that letter last year. I hope they will send another when it gets disabled as I have been using it alot for on demand video.

Ah so you have to notify Telecom. $75/month for unlimited internet is an awesome deal. I might just switch!

I too got the same letter - never use my TiVo - it was one of the ones from testing before it was rolled out. My usual data has been metered for a long time now. And I assume my TiVo data was not. I've also never told Telecom that I have a TiVo.

I thought they fixed this problem in around 2011? Mine is definitely metered (sigh) has been since they fixed the flaw. Both devices were purchased through Telecom.

Has the situation changed?

You are correct - the original issue was resolved early in 2011.

However there is another round of network infrastructure upgrades taking place and some issues were uncovered during this process.

Initially (this time round) from July 2012, a number of specific network (BBA network) customers known (through various means) to have a TiVo device were identified and effectively unmetered because the TiVo usage was unable to be identified so it could be zero-rated.

This latest round of letters relates to another set of TiVo customers (FIPD network) who will be moved to the BBA network over the next few weeks (as part of Telecom’s Undertakings to the Government to move all customers to a competitive "playing ground").

Since, by moving these customers, their TiVo usage will also be in the same position as the set of customers from July 2012 i.e. indeterminate, this new set of customers get the same "benefit", becoming unmetered, until the network upgrade issues are resolved.

All customers will be advised by letter before the unmetering is removed.

Cool

Just be aware that there may be a delay in your unmetering, depending on when you can be moved to BBA - check your usage meter before you go crazy!!

I received one of these letters also. Does anyone know how long these customers will be "unmetered"? Is it likely to be weeks or probably months?
