How is the progress please?

Its been almost 3 weeks now and still not fixed. I speak on behalf of all deaf in NZ that have Tivo in NZ.

What is going on and is someone doing anything about it?

I have emailed TVNZ and posted several comments on this website asking how the progress is going and STILL no repsonse.....

Some communication would be appreciated as to when the issue will be fixed.

Thanks.

Take to their facbook page and post there, keep an eye out the may be prone to remove comments that point out their lack of doing anything, so keep on posting, eventually they will do something.

well it looks like tivo is just been dumped!the problem will be over money!! not with the tech side, because they had it sorted out last week, tivo.nz stop'd making payments to tvnz and this is what we get left with, how much longer will we be able to keep useing tivo here in nz?not for much longer the way things are going at the moment.

how about some more info from tivo, if tivo render their boxes useless then they will be in for a fight as tivos were sold with a lifetime service

Will start seriously investigating TiVO replacements today...........can't live in the current space, with the units not meeting the requirements that they were purchased for.

May have 3 units comming up as replacements for someone soon (if you do not need the Subtitles).

In terms of avenues beyond complaining to TVNZ I would suggest the deaf community lodge complaints with the Health and Disability Commisioner and Green MP Mojo Mathers.

Maybe TiVo should suggest say a $5 / month maintenance fee like they have in the US for EPG maintenance etc.. I would rather pay that than have a box that has about the level of usability as an old VCR.

It's a suggestion, but most people paid a quite high price to buy the Tivo's on the condition that a "lifetime service" was provided, now it seems that tivo seem to be cutting portions of the service.

If Tivo decide to quit NZ then as far as i'm concered they have broken the sale and purchase terms and I will be chasing them for a full refund.

Sorry all,

I've been hammered elsewhere.

Short version no news, Longer version, us, TVNZ and the TiVo Engineers in the US are looking for both a short term and long term solution to the issue.

The problem is within the transmission stream sent by TVNZ and how the TiVo processes it.
I wish it was a simple thing to just tweak, but it isn't.

The problem isn't over money (I suggest spending a few minuets googling us to see who actually owns Hybrid), but it is a complex technical issue that can't be resolved by changing a simple config line.

Yes the subtitles did come back online for a short period, but from what I am told they caused other issues in other parts of the updated transmission path, and had to be shut down, until work around could be found.

As I mentioned before, I really understand the need for closed captioning, I lived 10 years in a non English speaking country, I don't speak English at home with my wife (it's now her 3rd language) and she needs subtitles to be able to watch TV as well. This issue is high on my priority list, I just frustratingly don't have an ETA for you.

Dan

Dan,

Why can't TVNZ or whoever reverse whatever was done at the end of August before all this carry on started?

All I know, is there was a lot of work/changes done on the back end during the changeover from U to TV2+1, and that the fix is sadly not as easy as just turning on a switch or checkbox.
As mentioned above, when they tried to, it caused all sorts of other things to go wheels up.

Digital terrestrial television broadcasts are sadly well outside of my area of expertise (give me a broken server and a nurf bat any day),  so I just have to defer to those who understand it, and nag fairly often.

Hi Dan Thanks for coming back with a reply....but apart from you everyone else (TVNZ, Telecom etc)  seems to be ducking for cover and trying to offload the complaints.

By the sounds of things the issue "appears" to be related to TVNZ changes - Adding TV2 +1 ,  decommissioning teletext or getting ready for analogue switch off.  If this is the case can you give us a pointer as to where folk should be sending their queries (rather than just this forum –where you end up copping it).

Agree that complex problems can take time to resolve, and TVNZ may be dealing with the "bigger picture".  This does not excuse the communication vacuum, and unless there is a relatively noisy pressure group often nothing will be done.

I am fortunate to be in the position to pay up and move on with alternative technology if required, many other users are not. Note: I have yet to find a solution as good as TiVO was, and dread the thought of retraining the boss.....so I have my fingers crossed for a fix before I need to commit to this route, although a few more forced watching’s of Coronation Street and something will need to give.

+1 for "I've yet to find another box as good as TiVo", despite some minor annoyances.
