For some reason when I change channels, or go to watch recordings, it's like the TiVo turns off.

My TV goes black, then shows what input it's set to, then the TiVo picture comes through.  This all happens within a couple of seconds.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Try it with another tv to see if the same thing happens. Otherwise it sounds like it could be dying.

I had this a couple of years back and I replaced the HDMI cable and power cycled the unit and all was good.

Is this the slow change of resolution when changing channels (i.e. between HD and SD)?

Our LCD is slow to change resolutions, so I fixed the TiVo output to 720p.

We've got one TiVo hooked up to a small Samsung LCD TV that does this. As above, if you set the Video Output resolution on the TiVo to something suitable for the TV it should sort it out.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Swapped it from Native and forced it to 1080i which seems to have fixed the issue.  Thanks everyone.

Sounds like something I had a year or so ago, also.  My TiVo would randomly lose connection and have to re-initiate the HDMI connection.  It mainly did this on TV1 & 2 for some reason, your post just reminded me that it hasn't happened for ages. Possibly since I got a new TV in November.
I swapped out the HDMI, put the aerial cable through a surge protector, etc but it still happened.  Odd as it would stop for weeks sometimes and then start up again and always on the main 2 TVNZ channels. Which made me think it was something in their signal that was causing it.

Hope you get it sorted with a simple HDMI cabl switch out.

He's already sorted it by changing the settings.
