This popped up in the oztivo mailing list: (oztivo.net)

Just a heads up that OzTiVo will most likely be receiving a boost in  interest with the release of a document I have just created on how to do  the PROM mod which is the first step in getting a TiVo HD (Series 3) unit  modded to work past October.

 https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5lxlJLWDNmWWVFmbzhoYTItYk0

I feel this is going to be an exciting time - if not a bit new - for anyone  wishing to keep their TiVo operational.

Software is not quite ready yet but there are people working on that and  some testing will be available shortly.

My thoughts are no longer my own and is probably representative of our media-controlled government

The Community Developed Software to enable your Tivo to keep running with an EPG has now been released to the Public.

Please do your best to connect your Tivo using the Network setting if you haven't recently, because it's advantageous for your Tivo to be running the latest 11.3b10.2017-1506-01-Z-663 software before installing this patch. You can check the System Information menu item to see which software your Tivo is running. Despite the official mothership being "closed" we suspect this software update may still be coming down, and if your Tivo has been connected over the last week, it should have received it automatically already.

The current version of the community software is ver 0.6. Note: You must have had your PROM chip replaced with a new modified one before you can use this software/patch.

Please take the time to read TivoInstaller.pdf in detail before starting. There are links in there for some files you'll need.

Here is the document.  http://hd.oztivo.net/twiki/pub/S3FAQ/S3HowToKeepUsingTiVo/TivoInstaller_0.6.pdf

The actual installer files you'll extract onto the USB drive created above are here: http://hd.oztivo.net/twiki/pub/S3FAQ/S3HowToKeepUsingTiVo/tivo_installer_0.6.zip

As of today, you should have around 2 weeks of EPG data from your Tivo's last trip to the official mothership, there's no need to rush into this. The new EPG data may not be perfect and will be a work in progress with some help from the community. Scraping data from certain websites would have been nicer, but lawyers tend to leap out with cease and desist notices when this happens. From memory Sky used to be like this.

When using the Season Pass feature with new guide data, you may need to use the default option of "Repeats and First-Run" rather than "First Run Only". Check the ToDo list to see if your choices will be recorded. You will almost certainly need to re-create your season passes after existing "official" EPG data is used up - around 14th November at present. You may also need to flush your current EPG data using the "Restart or Reset System"menu, then choose the option to "Clear program information and To Do list" then reconnect via the Network setting, to download new EPG data from the new OzTivo mothership.

The new software/patch should not harm your existing recordings. It does little more than patch the existing Tivo app on the hard disk and add some useful utilities. One new feature is the 30 second forward skip, which has been disabled until now.

Here is the OzTivo site where this can be found: http://hd.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view/S3FAQ/S3HowToKeepUsingTiVo

A little more info about the newly released Mod Software/patch

Big thanks go out to all the people working behind the scenes and testing on this. There has been a lot of activity from a lot of hard working people to get it to this stage.

Note you need to have the PROM chip installed for this to work. If you apply these mods to a non chipped TiVo it will not boot and you will have to restore from a backup.

The software mod has been pretty bulletproof to date and does a number of sanity checks before applying the update but to be safe you probably should make a backup with WinMFS in the rare chance that something goes wrong.

There are plenty of guides on the net for using it like this one for example: http://www.cdata.com.au/kb/a285/how-to-upgrade-your-tivo-hd-with-winmfs.aspx

Season Passes
You will need to redo all of your season passes. There is no way to migrate them across to the new OzTiVo guide data.

Ongoing Support
The OzTiVo forums will be revived soon for more targeted support so a link to that will be coming soon.

Patience
As mentioned previously this will be a work in progress from a number of unpaid volunteers so please be patient. This is a community effort and the people working on this behind the scenes are doing this out of the desire to keep the TiVo in Australia & NZ alive. Be respectful of them and if things don't look perfect or get fixed immediately know that they will be dealt with in time. Agro directed at those giving up their free time to help will only make them want to help less.

Re: Restoring / Enabling HNP function.

As many tivo's have been moded and retained HNP function one would think that it would be viable to access the tivo drive from a linux pc of one that has lost this function, Edit some Config files with the appropriate keys and restore lost HNP function?

Maybe this could be done in the same way the Oztivo patch is applied?

Food for thought or am i barking up the wrong tree.

Simon.

Yes, all the time since the change in Epg way last year.   Sometimes the recordings won’t start because of it either or there were double ups.   Found simply adding a manual recording was better & easier.

doubt that much can and would be done about it as even sometimes the epg data doesn’t even match Freeview data.
