I was aware that transfers between Tivos is currently no longer possible but it is still possible to transfer from a Tivo to a PC using the Home Networking Package.  I did that for a large number of recordings on one of my Tivos (one that was using an extension drive) and now that this Tivo has been modified and has a new, larger hard drive I was planning to transfer some of the recordings back to the Tivo.  However the Tivo reports that the PC has no recordings (the same message you get when trying to transfer form another Tivo).

1. Is it sill possible to transfer from PC to Tivo using the home networking package and, if so, is there some trick to get this to work?

2. If this is no longer possible what other method could I transfer some of the recordings from my PC back to the Tivo?

3. Is it still intended to investigate restoring the capability of transferring recordings between Tivos?

Thanks.

Transfers from PC to Tivo stopped working with the Tivo Desktop software some months ago, probably due to an expired key. One person has contacted me since then, and has successfully managed to get this working again by replacing one or more key files in the Tivo Desktop. I haven't confirmed this, but if you PM me, I'll dig up his email for you. He found info on the net that goes back several years and related to a USA situation, but apparently it works here too.

However, you may find switching to pyTivo is a far better option. It allows transfers from PC to Tivo and Tivo to PC and seems far faster. I use this all the time with my own Tivos. PM and I'll send you details as I have a pre-configured version I can send a link to, plus setup instructions.

Just tried it on my PC and upgraded TiVo.  Still works but transfer seems a lot slower.  Using the TiVo Desktop Plus software V2.8.3

It's interesting that it's still working for you, whereas it's stopped for others. I believe there is a key file that will expire eventually. pyTivo seems much faster for me than Tivo Desktop, when I was using it.

Thanks.  I am using Tivo Desktop Plus V2.8 (358513).  Does your one definitely work for transferring from PC to Tivo and not just Tivo to PC?  Mine only works Tivo to PC.

I haven't had much success transferring from PC to TiVo for the past couple of years.  I used to be able to put the files into the TiVo download folder and they would auto upload.  Just tried that now and no success.

@Frenzyshadow I've just PM the two options you can follow, and correct, it's only the PC to Tivo function that's stopped working on The Tivo Desktop. Thankfully pyTivo still works both ways.

Just downloaded pyTivo and installed it.  Added the Media key but when it runs it says that it can't find any  TiVos.  Something I'm missing??

There are at least 2x different builds or streams of pyTivo kicking around. One is a "Build for Dummys" that doesn't require a separate install of Python I believe,  and the one I used needed more work. I haven't used the former. Which did you use?

That's not the one I used. I used this as a starting point.: https://pytivo.sourceforge.io/wiki/index.php/Windows_Install

If you want to make life easier, I can supply my pre-configured version from my Dropbox, including the additional support files needed, along with a step by step tutorial.

PM if you would like this.

kmttg still works well to retrieve recordings from Tivo to PC. As always, this assumes you have a MAK (Media Access key) on your Tivo that you'd have if you bought or received the Home Networking Package.
