Went in yesterday and had a play with Tivo instore demo.  Man - it's beautiful.  It's SHINY!

Navigated a few menus,  added a season pass,  changed a few settings - it's very responsive and very sexy.   Didn't sleep much last night.  Wife thinks I'm nuts.

I'm thinking of starting a 1-man queue tomorrow morning from 6am...

haha, yeah it does look alright eh

I'm just considering either that or just getting another HTPC, but with so many PCs in the house already, this might be the other option.

What's the EPG like? is it exactly the same as the freeview EPG? or is it a more advanced menu?

Oh whoops, just saw the EPG, pretty slick indeed :)

Maybe if it drops in price a bit I might get it, otherwise I'll just build a new HTPC with a dual DVB-t tuner, was thinking quad, but there isn't many times when 4 channels have good stuff on at the same time

I'm an old-timer - I'm sick of cobbling stuff together to get half the functionality just to save a few bucks. I'm going to treat myself.

The coolest thing is the search feature programming compared to the traditional EPG. ie: I search ACTOR: RIK MAYALL - and it will list all the upcoming programs with him in. Or, GENRE: REALITY, ELIMINATION - and it lists 'Biggest Loser' 'Survivor Samoa' etc etc.

I'm also back with Telecom now after being d**ked around by XNET for a year, then slingshot. I've found their service is now vastly superior - and I used to h8 them so much.

The remote is cool too! And no, I don't watch 'Biggest Loser'....

I'm sharing the hype. My wife thinks I'm nuts too! Good timing for a birthday.

I'm another that went back to Telecom from Xnet too. I've also found it greatly superior, their service actually has improved and their peak/offpeak speeds are no where even close to Xnets :)

Does it have the glowing remote that the US one does? those are awesome!!!!

yeah, I'll probably go into a store to check it out, but I'm another person who'd be interested to hear how the EPG compares to MySky and Freeview. does it update quickly when you flick channels or move between menus? etc

Indeed, this will be of interest to me also. My Sony Bravia (ahem... um... something40v4000) is a bit slow...
To change channels takes perhaps a couple of seconds, but to load the EPG from being OFF, I press the guide button... sometimes it will take 8 or 10 seconds before "Loading" appears on the screen, then another 5 seconds or so before the EPG shows... so I am hopeful the TiVo is faster.

Do the TiVo's here make the same cool noise as the ones your see in US TV Programs?

Didn't notice - sound might have been low - but I hope so...

Like in this movie!

Yes they do have that sound effect, kind of a nice touch I thought and the sound was well chosen.

My Dreambox just sucked the mustard and my other $99 box is just so painful to schedule programs to the EPC even though it spits out nice .ts outputs so I might actually look at TiVo now.

The "pay it off" on the Telecom bill is a great option!

Sorry for replying to myself... but I can confirm that
1. The EPG is much, much faster than on my TV.
2. The EPG loads regardless of what you're watching, i.e. watching pre-recorded content, EPG still loads fast.
3. Thumbsing Up and Thumbsing Down works whether watching live or pre-recorded also.
4. I love the blip blip sound effects, nice to have audio feedback for button presses.

Cheers,
Joseph
