I have tried to enable the 30 second skip feature through the remote (Google for "tivo 30 second skip" if you don't know it). I didn't have any luck getting this going.

Has anybody else tried/succeeded?

I can't stand the linear fast forward feature that comes as default on the TiVo. This was great piece of technology in the 80's on my betamax VCR Smile,  but come on!, this is 2009!

I've tried this but cannot make it work either. Have tried with standard remote, and TiVo Glo remote ( which is great almost beyond description, bought from amazon.com ) and doesn't work on either.

Cheers,
Joseph

I don't believe this works on any models outside the USA. The UK, AU and NZ terrestrial models are all different hardware and software.

I will hazard to guess you are likely correct there.

I read someplace (well 1 place) that it actually worked in NZ (But was disabled by default). As far as I know when you are watching a recorded program (not live) press SELECT PLAY SELECT 3 0 SELECT and it will beep to enable it.

If it doesn't work then we are out of luck :-(

Sounds like they actively removed this feature from the NZ boxes' software/firmware

Could I ask what makes this remote better than the one provided? Is it worth the extra $$$'s?

Thanks.

You certainly may ask! I was going to post a picture and a description of I, but have not yet gotten around to it.
I'll give off my chuff tonight and do it.
Short answer is that I think it's heaps better, and yes, I am happy with how much I paid.

Cheers,
Joseph.

Yes, you could almost just press Forward 7 times (3:50) and skip those pesky ads. I just wish the ads were more appealing and not about sanitary products, nappies and pet food at dinnertime then I'd actually watch them and probably TV as well!

That's the "Instant Replay" button.

Will look at trying to set up something on our Harmony remote to do some kind of controlled time skip.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.
