I have just emailed Actrix. i'm paying close to $100/month for 3GB , landline, and tolls I hardly use. Telecom seem to have the best deal for now. I have a gmail address so don't need to change that. Hopefully they will match Telecom.

stevenz: That said, I'll give them a bell and see if I can score myself a TiVo. You can hack them right? :)

Yes, but the TiVoHD first requires the replacement of the PROM chip so that it will run hacked software. If you are in Chch I can help you with that.

CB_24: Damn, its only for new customers!

Does it say that?  I thought it just required you to re-sign for another 12 months?

It doesnt sound on that site but I called them to sign up (I'm already an existing Telecom customer for all my services) and they told me its only for new connections, not existing.

Ask to speak to someone in the Retention team.
I did that, so did a workmate. Both of us now have a free TiVo.

Thanks Telecom.

Call the normal number but ask to be put through to the Retention Team?
You were an existing Telecom customer as well?

Cheers OP - existing customer here, called up number on promo page, signed up for 12 additional months, and my Tivo is on its way. No hassle, no worries.

I love this community!

How did you manage to get it?
I called up and they would only do it if I had the mailer they sent out with some code on it.

I referred the first telecom phone person to the website. I also happened to mention in passing I'd recently had calls from both telstra (who is new in my area) and Vodafone (whom I have my mobile accounts with nudge nudge) looking for my business. I then got referred up the chain to someone. They said it was only for new customers. I said how about I cancel my contract and come back again. He had to refer it to the supervisor. Called me back 5 minutes later with not only the Tivo but ALSO the $100. Its for a year, same plan and I couldn't say no. Only catch is if I cancel I have to pay them something like $180 break fee. Thats no problem as I don't think much of Telstra nor vodafone. Better the devil you know!

No I don't know if I'm being paranoid since I've had my tivo for a year and a half with no problems. But what if the new one conks out. I've just taken a screen shot which shows telecom valuing the Tivo usually at $499. If I have to call  on the CGA doesn't hurt to have a bit of evidence pre prepared.

I got the same deal back at Christmas time, I think it was called Christmas treat or something. The deal was as above but for $75. Everything went fine, got changed over from Orcon, got my new Tivo..... but then I got my first bill.

Got charged the full price plus the maintenance contract which I'd not wanted. Do you think I could get it easily sorted, no way! No-body at their accounts had heard of the deal. Because it was around Christmas the inquiry was diverted to the Philippines. After several phone calls they promise to investigate and ring back, never happened. Ring again, they gave me a fax number to fax a picture of the posted out deal, faxed, still no reply. Rang them again, the fax hadn't been forwarded to them. By this time I was about to cancel due to breach of contract as my fist bill was getting to pay now stage. I thought about emailing the marketing manager or the CEO but of course couldn't find an email address or phone number.

By this stage the Christmas breaks were over and luckily my next call came to someone with a kiwi accent, who also didn't know of the deal but instead gave me a credit equal to the discounted amount over the 12 month contract. Second bill arrived still had the maintenance charge on it. Rang again got a credit for the maintenance charge. Third bill has arrived, only one maintenance charge credited! Ok I'll give them that one, but if they put the price up over the remaining nine months I'll be a very unhappy man, and they'll have to do something very special to keep me.

Why oh why don't the bl**dy promotions department inform everyone what they are doing.

OK rant over

Try again, the first (next level) guy turned me down as well and got someone different last night and she was more than willing to help me out.

The key line to use is "I'm currently looking into which provider can give me the best deal"
