Looks like we have some sort of confirmation from Palm:

Quite disappointed really.

A few weeks ago I found out Palm had laid off some of their people in New Zealand. I contacted their PR and found out she's not working there anymore. Then I asked their Australian country manager but got no replies.

I was told they closed operations in New Zealand.

Yeah, I remember you mentioning the rumour a little while back.

I think Palm should consider selling developer phones to those in unsupported regions. A developer may be interested in paying more for early access to the device and could get by without the local support.

Removing all ties in Australia / NZ means it'll be hard to come back as competition is just going to get tougher now.

Another reason why I'm not even bother with Palm Pre or the like... This Palm Treo Pro that I'm using is the first and the last Palm...

I would definitely drop my iPhone for a Palm Pre without a second thought....

The funny thing is, I bought my iPhone in January to temporarily tie me over until the Pre was released. By the time the Pre does make it here, it will be old hat and developers won't be interested unless Palm produces a new version.

And they also turned off there DNS server hosted on the Telstraclear network about 4 weeks ago and caused me a day of work why Palm devices on the Vodafone NZ network could not browse the web

All competition for the iPhone is good competition.... It forces Apple make a better device and better app store to fend of competition.
