Hi there,

I'm new here but I just wanted to give people who are using a forwarding service a heads up: if you receive your Touchpad order from onSale it weighs quite a bit (1.8kg!), expect shipping charges to be around $40 USD. Also, the SlickDeals wiki said earlier that onSale would only ship single orders for Touchpads so if you tried to order more than one that would explain cancellation. My forwarder received one of two Touchpad orders from onSale so I am assuming this is why the other one was cancelled.

dclegg: Found this TradeMe Auction for a 32GB TouchPad with a $1 reserve. Will be interesting to see how high this one gets, to see what value the market currently puts on it.

Some idiot started the bidding at $205. A mate of the reseller..??

If you start getting close to 400-500 why not go the whole hog and just get an ipad for a galaxy 2?

Exactly! The only reason this product was on my radar at all was due to its cheap price. I'm now wondering whether I could get away with getting a low end Android tablet, but I suspect the resistive screen on those would make them incredibly frustrating to use. And as one of the primary uses would be for games, this may even make it effectively unusable for those.

I'm also interested to see if this whole firesale episode will have much of an effect on the price of other tablets. I don't expect them to drop down to the same levels, but I'd be surprised to not see manufacturers shave something of their RRPs in order to try and cash in on the interest the TouchPad has generated.

My 32gig bought from Amazon/OnSale got sent to my cousin in Phoenix - she sending to me, US$29. Not sure why someone got quoted $40 - perhaps just a different carrier.

Hi fab,

No idea - she just costed it up. I was surprised that it turned up at all, my Amazon order still says "shipping soon" even now!

Shipped via FedEx, USPS will likely be cheaper. Also, for some reason the onSale packages were listed as being heavier than shipments from other retailers. Could also just be the forwarding service trying to make an extra 10 bucks. I'm not too fussed as I'm happy I got one but I was a bit surprised at the price.

Just heard from Ingram. Apparently there are no units left to go around to any of the resellers so we have missed out as has everyone else. So much for our allocation of 10 Frown

I called my local JB HiFi again this morning. The official word is all stock is being sent back to HP. The unofficial word is that if this decision is reversed, the stock will go in an instant. The guy stated he was keen to get one himself, so while he didn't say it directly, I inferred this to mean that all stock will probably be snapped up by staff.
