In the end, I'm paying $10 to get it from the US (shipping included) than Mobicity was offering. I bought from this guy, although he now seems to have secured more stock (9 left): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-HP-TouchPad-32GB-WiFi-9-7in-Black-Sealed-/150655883278?pt=US_Table...

YMMV

iceteap3: live chat is back on, time to get some answers lol

It's off again :P I gave up on livechat and just emailed. Can always call their 09 number but I can put what I want to know better into typed words. Will see if they reply. If they don't before later this afternoon i'll give them a call and see.

Are you getting it shipped to a US address? His shipping to NZ is currently $57 USD. Add that to the $290 USD price and it's a currency converted total of $407 New Zealand dollars shipped to here.

Edit: I guess it's because the ebay sale prices have been increasing. But the shipping still seems very steep.

I got an earlier price of US$279. Versus $389 from Mobicity, I'm not fussed about the shipping.

Shipping from MobiCity once they do begin to ship is based on when you were verified not when you placed your order. I.e. I placed my order Thursday but only called to be verified yesterday so i'm behind many other people who may have ordered after me.

Also I asked if she could check how many people were ahead of me:

[Noan] I can not check where are you at in the waiting list.
[Noan] but you should get some confirmation on Friday.

So looks like i'll be waiting until Friday to hear anything (Doesn't look particularly good but i'll hang on anyway).

Just to update, I got a confirmation from the eBay seller with shipping time and tracking number. Definitely recommend this seller based on the service I'm getting.

OHHH Stupid me. It's a 32gb! Sorry, disregard my price comparison, I didn't even notice that it was a 32gb, that is a very very good price then. I'm after a 16gb one, for some reason I didn't click. Could be an option now this seller at that price.

7 left 'cos I've followed Magu - thanks for the link.

Now got to decide whether to cancel existing order with another supplier.

Any how ... if I do manage to get one could someone pls give some pointers as to cost and supply options for accessories. I think the main options are the touchstone charger and bluetooth kbd?

Thanks

My touchstone arrived from Acquire the other day - a lot smaller than I thought it would be, which is great.

This sudden infatuation with tablets has played on my weakness for frivolous gadgetry.

Looking at picking up an ASUS Transformer.

Then ultimately regretting my purchase.

I got this email this morning

Your order # 20000xxxx status is Level 3.

You can check the status of your order by logging into your account

Unfortunately your order has not been able to be security verified at this time and has been escalated to our verification team. We will shortly attempt to contact you during business hours on the contact phone number(s) provided prior to shipping. If we are unable to reach you within 3 days your order may be cancelled. Apologies for any inconvenience. - IK

I haven't heard anything since and logging in to the account doesn't tell me anything different from this email, at this stage anyway.

Sitting back and waiting.  After reading other posts on here it's hard to know if it's been a waste of time putting my order into Mobi City.  Should I be looking elsewhere or just forget about the whole thing. At least for the time being.

I tend to think there will be some cheaper ones on TradeMe in a week or two when the hoopla has died down and people who bought on the spur of the moment decide to sell their under used Touchpad. On the other hand those that bought the Touchpad may discover it's actually quite good and it ends up developing a strong cult following, keeping the second hand prices up.

There certainly seems to be quiet a few scalpers selling on TradeMe which is frustrating for those of use who were genuine buyers looking to buy and keep the Touchpad.  That's life I guess.
