Can anyone point me to where I could post a "wanted to swap" for the above lens?

Also anyone has experience with both lens?

The 17-40mm is amazing, but I am wondering if something even super wider would be even more amazing, at the expense of distortion and softness and slower speed and versatility

I've seen "Buy/Sell/Trade" groups in Facebook for photography gear, might be a good place to start.  The Canon is generally regarded as being very good value for money, although can be quite soft in the corners even when stopped down which isn't great for landscape images.

By moving to the 12-24 you are giving up weather sealing and the ability to use filters, but in terms of IQ you'r not going to see a lot of difference except for fisheye distortion at the wide end of the sigma (normal for lenses that wide). Being one of Sigma's lenses they made/designed before they improved the quality control somewhat, I would try to get a couple test shots with the new lens.

Although I've never seen/used one, I've also heard good things about the Tokina wide angle lenses like the AT-X 16-28 F2.8 Pro FX.

Saw you found the Dphoto forums, didn't think of that myself. You can find NZ only groups, this is a Dunedin page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/218106148381441/  There was a NZ one but I haven't seen much activity on it lately. Been pretty lucky with Sigma myself, own two Sigma lenses and they are both great, but have heard lot of stuff with people having focus problems etc.
