I'm looking for a webcam with native 720P (960x720 or thereabouts) resolution. I have tried a few that are advertised as 720P but it must be only using some sort of custom drivers. I am running the cam with fswebcam on a Raspberry Pi. fswebcam is reasonably smart at nutting out "native" resolutions - just tell it to take a 2000x2000 pic and it will protest that the camera only does 640x480 or whatever and that's what you get. Jaycar have one that works for about $45 but I was hoping to find something a little lower down the $$$ chain .....

Logitech are generally well supported

I have one of their older 720p models and the video quality is excellent.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC a Technology Evangelist and Product Manager. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

+1 on the Logitech ones , I have 2 (Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 ) running into a ubuntu box and use the software called motion as a means of a security setup around our house.

Excellent picture quality (1080p)

You get what you pay for in a web cam is my opinion , if you cheap out you can end up with just crap quality picture.
