My camera has a removable Lexar Platinum II SDHC 8gb memory card.

To transfer photos, I've got into the habit of connecting the camera to my PC with the USB cable, a tedious process.

A card reader would be less trouble.

I'd prefer to use the USB-stick type - i.e., the sort that looks like a regular USB memory stick, but has slots along its side for inserting SD cards.

Anyone have recommendations for a brand\model?

I'd probably plug such a stick into my Asus PA248 monitor, which has a couple of unused USB3 ports.

I guess the main requirement would be a fairly rapid transfer speed, as my photo files are RAW and fairly large.

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen any "named brand" card readers of a type your after. Most of the ones from reputable brands are little standalone box connected via cable.

Anything from the likes of Sandisk/lexar etc should be good, just remember, you get what you pay for :P

Head over to http://www.photo.co.nz as they have a good range of Card Readers.

Honestly you are best to go for the likes http://www.lexar.com/readers/lexar-professional-usb-30-dual-slot-reader?category=203 They are expensive but really good.

The stick type are not as good as this. or if you wanted to go the more pro way then http://www.lexar.com/workflow?category=203 is the best bet

I've been using one of these for a few months - it works and is a brand I know and trust: Kingston USB 3.0 MobileLite G4 Card Reader.

Hi guys, just received your responses.

I've no idea why I'm suddenly receiving replies to my September 26 post, but after a week or so I gave up and sorted it myself.

Thanks.
