Hiya there!
I bought a Canon IXUS 100 IS because it has HD video (mov, h.264, linear PCM mono).

The problem is it records about 200mb per MINUTE! So i tried to record in NON-HD. still same size!
(The other problem is it doesnt refocus once it starts recording which to me is a scam!)

Any ideas how i can re-encode to a manageable size, say MAX 1GB per HOUR?

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Handbrake is a good app for format shifting video files.

What do you mean by "better"? If you compress something it can't deliver better picture quality than the original H.264 recording.

good to see Handbrake worked for you. It is very straight forward, and does a pretty good job generally.

what do i mean by better? hmm ... appears better on VLC. i know you can't make anything better unless you're on CSI. but it 'appears' better on my 24" monitor which is 1080p. smoother. with the original when opened on 1080p it was jaggy. i believe it has got something to do with VLC not being able to utilise GPU to smooth out the giant file. I should've used quicktime eh ... let's see if it's in the recycling bin ...
