HDR secret - either you do it manually, or use the secret Topaz Adjust (ONE CLICK) or - get the Canon 6D/5DMkIII and shoot Faithful +1 Saturation the camera does it for you.

My favourite is Topaz Adjust hands down. Seriously I am a purist, like to do it properly, but Topaz/Canon has made me struggle. A lot.

So i found a most boring shot. In fact it was to test lighting. I did two different clicks on Topaz Adjust with 2 different results. Purists are going to hate me now! (If the sky had ANY colour it would be spectacular, unfortunately I selected the most boring shot with nothing to play with seemingly.)

Typically when composing, I looks for both foreground and background elements that are interesting, and any sort of leading lines to draw the eye into the image.

Wow! Highway shot and this last one of trees are my fav. How did you get the effect of grass and clouds on the road?
