I still use facebook to keep in touch with family and friends overseas. I haven't used Twitter for ~7-8 years. I've tried to use Instagram twice now and while it starts off OK with a feed closely related to your interests it doesn't take long for it to be inundated with nonsense.

I have slowly moved away from some toxic platforms. I have removed and logged out of Meta apps - Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram - and today I have deleted all my Twitter content.
Enough of the crap these platforms attract.
I mean... I respect your decision, I do. But if you are looking for privacy, then perhaps you should stop using Chrome, Android phones, iOS, MacOS and so many others. The list is sooooo long that it's not even worth it, at least to me.
But if you did it because of the toxic environment, it's a different story and I support it. But in these cases all you have to do is to stop following the "wrong" ppl.
BTW - How do you keep in touch with family? My father barely knows how to use WhatsApp, can't imagine me teaching him to use a private messaging app like Signal.

i haver used any social media, i dont have a mobile phone or even a bank account under my name, i dont own a credit card or any bank card, i am a very private person and i go out of my way to stay private , it just suits my personality.
Common sense is not as common as you think.

Email, iMessage, phone call, or even a letter in the mail?
The above all work fine for me and I don't see what value social media adds.

Email = My father is 61 years old and he can barely open WhatsApp, can't imagine him sending an email! Not to mention the rest of the family and business related things (WhatsApp is heavily used for business purposes in South America).
iMessage = Not everybody use iPhone!
Phone call = Doesn't work when you have family abroad
Letter in the mail = I mean... really?

sud0: My father has 61 years old
Not sure of the relevance here. My dad is 70 and he was sending emails before I learned how to.

I meant is hard for him to learn new things. Remember that different countries, different cultures. My father only got hold of a computer when he was older than 50 years old! Smartphone? only in the last 10 years.
It's a very different reality in Third World countries.
Also having WhatsApp there and being able to communicate with someone in real-time, is a very different experience than by email.
Don't get me wrong... I'd love to get rid of WhatsApp.. I just can't.

Wow good on you! Do you use any kind of messaging program or photo sharing platform? I think the thing I'd miss whatsapp group chat and the ease of sending a photo or video on that platform.
I have never been on Facebook, Twitter, or any of the others. Never felt the need. Geekzone is my social media. My friends know they can always reach me by email. Who needs anything more?

I just don't see the point of not using Meta's services but keep using Google's (Gmail, Android, etc), or M$'s (Outlook, etc). As a matter of fact, you should avoid any service with .com, as US has access to any of those domains and can (probably is) intercept emails.
In my opinion you are fully into privacy mode or not.

I ditched social media early last year and good riddance! Bring back the good old fashioned phone call or go and see friends for a good old gossip ;-)
Happy with google for now. Though I use google Rewards and that is probably just as bad as facebook for tracking you via your location data.
I have found it interesting those that are big social users, don't communicate via traditional methods at all. It also annoys me that a few businesses put all there info on facebook and close it off to facebook users only!

Back in 2020, level 3, one of the local restaurants offered online ordering... if you were a Facebook user. If you didn't have Facebook then it just loaded to a blank page!
