SJB:
Also on the Output tab I would tick the last General option - Create data for channels with the same name etc etc.

Have you done this?

Double check your registry settings.

I did a lot of testing on this over the weekend and the DisableInband = 1 definitely stopped it on my setup. If I didn't have it set, as soon as I watched a channel it would download the EIT data for all the channels on the same frequency as the channel I was watching.

WMC only reads these registry settings on loading.

The other registry setting (PeriodicScanEnabled) didn't seem to affect it even if I set the scan interval low but I would still set it to zero as I've seen it mentioned on the Net a lot.

I also have the dots - only on Prime, pulling Freeview EIT data from Optus 12456 off my sat card.  All channels have listing source set to EPG-Collector, Inband disabled, registry edits mentioned above have been applied, Windows and MCE restarted, output options in EPG config set as mentioned above, but the dots on Prime remain...

I'm pretty sure the Prime data is there somewhere, as the 'program' time-blocks appear to relect the different durations of shows, and I occasionally see the program category coloured background taunting me! However, only the dots are displayed. About a week ago I scrolled forward right to the end of the EPG listings (14 days forward ?) and noticed a good block of properly populated programs for Prime, including data for the 24th and 25th of July, but that has since disappeared. I assume that it has been over-written by subsequent scheduled task uploads. I'll go and check again to see if any similar blocks of future programs are now present following the reg edits.

I'm at a bit of a loss, especially as the remainder of the EPG Collector setup is working really nicely - thanks very much for that indeed! Any thoughts on what next to try?

Cheers
John

Are you setting the correct registry key. I now recommend using the following

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID

DisableInband DWORD to 1.

Note DisableInband instead of DisableInbandSchedule.

The BackgroundScanner setting should be as I originally posted. After any registry changes reload WMC as it only reads them on startup.

The time slots will be correct as you are seeing EIT data from the broadcasters. For a lot of the programs they put dot in the program title and description and WMC downloads this data if the registry doesn't inhibit it whenever you switch to a channel that is carrying it.

If run EPG Collector I think it will overwrite the dots with the correct titles and descriptions. Try it and check the guide before watching any channels.

The GLID branch in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\ did not exist, so I created it and added in the DisableInband key with DWORD to 1.

I'll double check the BackgroundScanner setting, but I'm pretty sure that is set as advised.

I very, very rarely watch live TV through WMC, so pretty much every time WMC starts up, the EPG data is that that has been loaded via EPG Collector, not as a consequence of watching the channel and pulling in the MHEG data. I do see the now+next type of program data appearing and replacing the dots if I happen to watch Prime, but only for the immediate program and the next one or two - I believe this is as expected. Also, all channels are set to prefer the DVB-T cards, rather than the DVB-S cards, with the latter only really used for pulling in the EIT data, or on the really rare occasions I'm recording a bunch of programs with overlaps.

Is there something in the Prime data or flags that could be being mis-identified in my setup? All the other channels are being processed and displayed perfectly, so the issue seems specific to the way Prime is being delivered, processed or imported. Is Prime the only channel that uses the dots as you indicate?

Cheers
John

Set up and run a collection that creates an xmltv file. It's only a text file and you can look down it and see the channels and programs that have dots in the title and description.

I don't have access to terrestrial (sat only unfortunately out here in the wilds of South Canterbury) but I processed a terrestrial stream dump I had from late last year and it showed the dots, mostly for programs after the first day. Prime seemed no different in that respect.

I imagine WMC will pull down the EIT data whenever a frequency is tuned to so it will do it for recordings as well as live viewings.

Just to be clear it's only terrestrial that has this problem because the EIT data is different from the MHEG5 data. The EIT data is wrong or imcomplete while the MHEG5 data is correct and complete. On satellite the EIT data and MHEG5 data is essentially the same.

The thought I had about Prime was that maybe EPG Collector is linking the Prime data to a different channel in the WMC database to the one that appears in the guide. This can happen with the multiple TV Ones that are broadcast but Prime is only broadcast once as far as I know.

Can you post the log and I'll check what the linking is.

I've now installed EPG Collector v4, double-checked registry settings for BackgroundScanner and DisableInband, and have switched to MHEG5 of satellite -log posted below (I think this was the one you're after SJB but if not please let me know).

I checked the EPG, and I have a fully-populated listing for Prime from 12am Monday 30th July 'til the end of that week, but only dots for Prime from now 28 July 'til then.

@emergence - do you see anything like this with your Prime epg?

I've just checked the .xml output of a run through done immediately after a normal run (which imports directly into WMC). I can see the correct Prime data from the current time onwards, so it appears to be pulling down Prime data no problems. On going back in to WMC, I now see that I no longer have Prime epg data for the program beginning at 12am Mon 30 July that was present an hour ago and before the last imported run - it has been overwritten by the dot. The next program, beginning 3am, is still displayed.

So it looks as though a rolling 36hour period from the time the EPG Collector runs and imports into WMC is overwriting Prime's program data??

If you look at the xml file I think you might see that the Prime data is only correct for the first 24 hours or so and then the dots are present in the title and description for all the programs after that.

Same for a lot of the other channels.

At least that's what I saw when I processed a terrestrial stream dump.

Sorry I misread your post. I thought that your xml run collected EIT data but it was MHEG5 wasn't it.

Have you tried manually editing the channel in WMC and edit listings to link the Prime - EPG Collector entry to the channel.

Leave your EPG Collector parameters as auto map EPG though.

I checked the EPG, and I have a fully-populated listing for Prime from 12am Monday 30th July 'til the end of that week, but only dots for Prime from now 28 July 'til then.

@emergence - do you see anything like this with your Prime epg?

Sorry No. Still having issues with the dots but prime is ok so i'm leaving it for the moment.

AARRG.

As so as I posted the above I went to look at some live coverage and now i have a tuner conflict!!!

Tried this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2277775

But it says this update is not suitable.

2200 tuner is fine, epg collector can access it fine.

Can't believe how many issues i've had settuing up this htpc.

2 failed ssd's due to a sleep mode firmware issue.
1 failed 2tb data drive.
Constant crashing while trying to use integrated i5 graphics.
EPG fun for weeks, still issues...
and now this...

Thanks for the help everyone and without this forum WMC would have been far worse but I'm now regretting my decision to ditch sky.

Grr. Sorry for the rant.
