Topic # 225656 29-Nov-2017 09:50
Send private message quote this post

After realising my guide data hadn't updated in the last week, this post https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=126&topicid=225606 mentioned that we should be using EIT instead of MHEG5.

So I changed the collection parameters to EIT, and this produced 7 days of guide data for every channel except TVNZ 1, 2, +1 and +2. It seems it's only getting 2 entries for those channels (now/next)

I'm in Auckland using Waiatarua 538 MHz. Any help appreciated, cheers.

Try one of the other frequencies for your transmitter.

Thanks for looking at this...

I tried the other available frequencies but no luck,

  • 570 MGz - same result as above
  • 666 MHz - no signal

Can you use EPG Centre to do a transport stream dump (30 secs), upload it somewhere and post the link.

not sure if this is relevant but for years I have been using epgcollector to pull in the data from mheg5 via dvbt and things suddenly stopped pulling in sometime in the last 7 days which seems to correlate to other issues people have been seeing. I only noticed the problem tonight when the EPG came to the end of its 7 day history.

Other setups I look after reported exactly the same issue.

I had to switch to EIT collection mode like others, but then looked at the resulting tvguide.xml and saw it was full of "Huffman Text" messages, so a bit of googling later and I realised I needed to add the Option line to the freeview.ini file I use (see below).

Guide data was then coming through fine - I just needed to flush the SPMC/Kodi caches on the clients (after dvblogic had pulled in the new EPG file) and hooray I have guide data back for all channels again.

What a lot of dicking around just to watch a bit of TV! Luckily I've got used to this type of occasional nonsense in the last 10 years!

C:\epg>type grabguide.bat
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Geekzone\EPG Collector
EPGCollector.exe /ini="c:\epg\freeview.ini"
del "C:\ProgramData\DVBLogic\dvblink\xmltv\TVGuide.xml"
copy /Y "C:\epg\TVGuide.xml" "C:\ProgramData\DVBLogic\dvblink\xmltv\TVGuide.xml"

C:\epg>type freeview.ini
[GENERAL]
Output=C:\epg\TVGuide.xml
Timeouts=10,300,5,1,50
Option=USEFREESATTABLES,FORMATCONVERT

[DVBT]
TuningFile=New Zealand.Auckland - Sky Tower.xml
ScanningFrequency=530000,8,EIT

Can you try running a collection again. When I processed the file mux 25 collected the correct number of records for the channels that only had 2 records previously.

The other muxes still only had 2 records. This might be a problem because it can defeat the option to duplicate channels data when there is none received and then in WMC you may be watching the mux with only 2 records.

Interestingly, if I only scan mux 25 it will find all records:

But if I include all the mux's it only finds 2 records, I guess this is the problem your alluding to?

I've just realised that when I ran the collection I had no entries in the Channel tab.

After porting the scan list and station list from your INI file I end up with the same results as you ie only 2 records for TV1 etc.

I'll look in to it and post back. In the meantime I have uploaded a fix to Sourceforge for MHEG5 so if you are really stuck you can install fixpack 10 and go back to collecting MHEG5.

Clearing the channels works! I thought it would be more efficient to exclude the ones I wasn't interested in, but I can live without it.

This is awesome, thanks for your help.

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I can confirm the MHEG5 extraction is working using fix pack 10 now again.

Once question though, If I compare the mheg5 data with the EIT data, the mheg5 file seems to be larger.

I have uploaded the two files to my google drive -does one contain a richer set of information that the other?

EIT

mheg5

It's probably down to the subtitles tag which is present in the MHEG5 file but not the EIT.
