This slightly off topic, but can someone tell me how to write a batch file to make this run automatically?  I have tried using task scheduler to run the EPG Collector executable, but it just will not run.  Neither will the scheduled task for the BigScreen EPG (which is created by the program itself) for that matter.  I don't know what I am doing wrong.  The EPG Collector folder sits on the Desktop, permissions look ok, I can run it just fine by clicking on the .exe and running as administrator.  My scheduled task has elevated permissions too.

Any help welcome to finalise my setup.

Huge props to the creators.

Ivan

After creating the batch file as described in the link above, open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Scheduled Tasks and MODIFY the Big Screen EPG task. Add a step BEFORE the EPG in whic you run the batch file created.

It should work from there. Make sure the Big Screen EPG is correctly configured to load the XMLTV file created by the EPG Collector. IF you test it manually then it should be good to go as a scheduled task.

Hi guys,

Brilliant program! Got it working great with a Genius USB tuner using DVB-T here in Christchurch, but have not had any luck getting the guide with an HDHomeRun. Has anyone else got it working with one of these?

It seems to be trying to use EIT instead of MHEG even though the ini file specifies Y for MHEG. Log is below, any help appreciated. Cheers.

Yes, I have it running with my HDHomeRun. Make sure you leave it to select the tuner automatically, and most important check that you don't have any firewall blocking this program access to the network - that was my problem when it didn't run well on Windows 7.

Of course, it was the Windows firewall. Don't know why I didn't think of that! I just added EPGCollector.exe to the list of programs allowed through the firewall and now it works a treat.

Thanks Mauricio.

Why the Windows Firewall didn't raise an alarm and showed the blocking dialog is a mystery, but that's how it is.

[TangoNZ : It seems to be trying to use EIT instead of MHEG even though the ini file specifies Y for MHEG]

Just for your info the Collector reverts to EIT if it can't locate the station info it needs for MHEG. The log reads 'No SDT sections' therefore no stations therefore no MHEG info so it dropped back to EIT.

Glad it's working for you. freitasm and I spent days trying to sort the firewall problem before my co-conspirator giggles found the answer.

Just so you folks have an idea, I had created a virtual machine running Windows 7, installed the HDHomeRun drivers/client and made it available from inside my home LAN so the developers could test the software with an actual HDHomeRun, albeit remotely.

At giggles' request I installed Visual Studio 2008 on that virtual machine so he could debug the code - and that's where he found the problem with the firewall.

Mad props to those developer folks!

I've been having problems with series record lately and I figured it was a media center thing until I did a forum search on thegreenbutton.com.au and found it can be the xml categorie. Sure enough for some reason programs like House on TV3 are listed as category MOVIE so obviously it won't do a series record! Anyone else having this problem grabbing EIT from pay satellite?

I have an xmltv file I collected today and House is listed with a category 'Show' everywhere.

What version of the Collector are you using?

I'm on 1.0.17.0 - Here is an example for Supernatural tonight

  <programme
    start="20100609223000 +1200"
    stop="20100609233000 +1200"
    channel="1036">
    <title>Supernatural</title>
    <desc>In an alternate universe, Dean and Sam live normal lives and work in a corporation. But when co-workers start committing suicide at an alarming rate, they find themselves working to solve the murders.</desc>
    <category>Movie</category>
    <rating>
      <value>AO</value>
    </rating>
  </programme>

So its a movie again! SJB - Are you collecting EIT or MHEG5 freeview?

I'm collecting all of them because I'm developing/testing out a new version with support for OpenTV.

The Pay TV EIT collection gives the category as 'Show' while the Freeview EIT collection gives 'Movie'. There is no category available for MHEG5.

As the app doesn't know whether it's collecting Pay TV EIT or Freeview EIT I reckon it's probably the source data from Freeview that results in the 'Movie' category. I seem to remember that the last time I looked the Freeview categories were pretty useless.
