Perhaps a function to "fix" this so all categories are listed as "show"?
Simple find & replace once the file has been created would do the trick.

If you're looking for post-processing then there's a script here;

http://nice.net.nz/xmltv-proc-nz

which uses community contributed JSON feeds from nzepg to normalise and augment XMLTV data. There is currently processing publicly available for;

* Adding the real BBC World programs to TV1
* Normalising mis-splet or alternative show titles
* Extract episode names/titles
* Add category information
* Augment movies with data from TMDB

It works well with the data from the freeview website which is likely very similar to their MHEG data.

It is a Python script but doesn't have any hard dependencies outside the standard library so I imagine it could be compiled with py2exe for Windows users if they don't want to install Python.

cue1boy:  Have a read of the detailed instructions here...

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=61903

It also provides a link to lyngsat which sholud contain the satellite frequencies for you.  As for setting the Dish parameter in the INI file (a sample Satellite INI file is included) you will need to either google the LNB settings for your dish or see if it still has a sticker on it showing these settings.

http://www.lyngsat.com/europe.html

eg. for Astra/Eurobird1 satellites:

Satellite:282

#First Astra2A frequency in Lyngsat
Frequency:11720000,29500,3/4,H,N

Remember to look up your own dish LNB settings.

cue1boy: The frequency I gave you was an example from lyngsat. PM me the LNB details or dish model and I'll try to knock up an INI file for you. You'll be the first UK user :-) so happy to help you get started.

cue1boy is running now. For anyone else with his type on LNB, use these settings:

Dish:9750000,10600000,10600000

Yes many thanks to GIGGLES for all his help getting me sorted.I am running the app tonight as it takes some time to scan all the frequencies i've inputted.Sometimes i get error code 6 , could this be to do with the setting 10-300 and if so should i increase the 300.I have also been able to generate a xml file for dvb-t now.
Anyone else in the uk that needs ini file for astra 2a,b,d and eurobird 1 or freesat uk let me or GIGGLES know.

cue1boy: Yes, because you have so many services on the same MUX you may need to increase to timeout to say 10,600. Error code 6 means it has grabbed an incomplete set of Download Data Blocks.

No need to increase the 10 sec for a signal lock.

mentalinc: wanna provide feedback on a GUI I've been working on? PM me if you like. Haven't done anything on it for a few weeks - too busy at work. But would like to get it finished.

Can you just check this ini file for any errors for me, ive commented out the timeout altogether but when i ran EPG Collector i got a code 6 and no xml file was created.The program works ok cause if i only add 1 frequency at a time the xml file is created, i'm trying to find out if any of the frequencies is causing it to not create the xml by adding them 1 at a time but as you can see with the amount of frequecies this is taking some time,Cheers.
