These categories all look the same as the trademe site, as does the general layout, search filtering etc. looks like a blatant copy of trademe.

Holy fail, Batman!

Someone pointed out this result for a search (a number plate "SKYL9") - look at the image:

The image change if you switch to grid view:

And if you go to the auction you can get something like this instead of the plate:

I've refreshed the page multiple times and only once the plates SKYL9 actually showed up - a number of random pictures were presented.

The TV ad make it sound like they want "wheedle" to turn into a verb, pretty much like we say "google" when talking of "doing a search".

I get the baby image for both views.. Still, it's the wrong thumbnail and images for the auction, so it's still a big fail.

Well i just signed up and listed two little items in a show of support for healthy competition. How can a monopoly satisfy it's investors year after year? The easy way of course, fee hikes year after year.

Does anyone realistically see this lasting? I sure as heck don't.

Out of all the potential business opportunities out there, this was what they chose to chuck money at? Yikes.

EDIT: Blatant copy of Trademe in a *bid* to easily transition and keep users?

I was thinking of that but no confirmation two hours later. How long did it take to get yours?

Maybe they are using some generic off the shelf auction software?

Makes you wonder if they did any testing at all on that website before launching it. Makes apples maps failure look pretty minor.

I did not give them my usual email address or real name and address for this and similar reasons.

The way things are looking database wise - my details are just going to pop up randomly somewhere.

I'm seeing occasional 503's (service unavailable)

Perhaps traffic is building up heading closer to midnight?

I actually don't think copying the general look of the trademe site is that bad of an idea. I mean, as far as their interface goes trademe does it very cleanly IMHO.. and because everyone has used trademe, there is less of a barrier for new users to come across.

The problem is if they don't do _anything_ different, then the only reason to use the new site is pricing. I don't think that's enough myself.

Just checked my gmail/apps spam folder and found it (another fail). It took about an hour to come through.

Next thing Wheedle tells me the activation code is invalid and - after that I get a 404 when trying to use the resend activation code link. Irrg.

"There is no need to top up your account, everything is free until November 29"

And they show clip art of a pile of pancakes. With "relax, have a cake"
