ajobbins: Man the people running this site come across as very arrogant and entitled.

It actually makes me look forward to seeing them fail hard.

agreed, the picture of the "Closing Down Liquidation Sale" with the quote "You should have just let me swap my ute!" on their front page makes me hope they crash and burn....  and i have no love for trademe.

even if they had a very secure site I wouldnt use them just from their "about us" statement.  That has put me off from EVER using them. As someone else said very arrogant.  Even the reply to freitasm when he pointed out the security lapse is arrogant. so no way using them

I have just received another email with an apology and the promise the SQL vulnerability and other points noted in this thread are now under review:

Thanks for the heads up on the SQL issues.

As you may not be aware I am a businessman as opposed to an IT expert.

My ultimate job during the build is to design and oversee flows on the site.

I was very tired last night and I apologise for my blunt response.

The guys are addressing the noted issues and have found more.

At this early stage we will only be lightly advertsing and focusing on bettering the infrastructure of the site.

All points noted on your site have been taken into consideration including the about us text.

We were very disgruntled by the way we were treated by trademe but we are removing the offensive statements as we speak.

This is a good outcome. I hope they can make it better and safer.

Clearly they get a bit shirty when they are told something other than they want to hear, and it takes some later reflection for them to realise they weren't right.

This website will fail. And soon.

Little late to the party here, but I just visited their about this page (http://www.tradesnswaps.co.nz/about-us) and saw this:

"About Us & Why TNS Was Built

Trades and Swaps was originally conceived and built after a disagreement with TradeMe at Easter time in 2012."

Why do you need to include something like that in your About Us statement? Why not just say "we identified a gap in the market and thought we could do better"? Saves the personal digs at your competitor.

It was worse. Initially it was little more than a crazed rant at Trade me.

These people do not get it.

Didn't seller already try this?
When they first came out there was heaps of advertising etc.
But it didn't even affect TradeMe so who ever is next would need to be pretty onto it to get customers off them.

Kaos36, I'm pasting your post from the dupe thread so the second quote makes more sense..

Kaos36: [Is trade and swap being hacked] by a competitor, last night about 12am i i kept getting time out errors , couple hrs later i try and get into the community board. i asked what happened? Admin there reckons some decided to delete the mb, but all is sorted now. Apart from all threads in the mb have been deleted

Go in again an same thing -time outs

You will need to register to sign into there community board This is not intentional to get others to sign up. Im sure this site is being hacked.

www.tradesnswaps.co.nz

Did this site say they were being hacked by a competitor?

Kaos36: good to know so tell this noob is this a hack / exploit and does the Admin know about this? I wouldn't want to use ther site for trading otherwise

I could not work it out from your message. Did the site administrators delete the database themselves accidentally, or on purpose, or was it deleted by an attacker? Any of those is not too good really ; ).

Well thats why i came here to ask if you guys  would know.  All threads were deleted.   Not defaced like is likely to happen but deleted this time.

I was able to get into Communities before, this is my original post:
Been trying to enter site forum last couple of hrs kept getting timed out errors, finally get in and all the discussions are gone?  This site get hacked? Or was someone drunk at the helm and deleted everything?

And what Admin said:
quote
we had a major issue...someone decided to cancel a server and that server was for our forum...we lost all the data and have had to spend the whole day rebuilding the look and feel of the forum and we lost all the data as it was stored on the server...so not happy...but its back....apologies...the madhouse is still there...but we lost all the posts....

So this morning igo to TnS & i get the time out errors again.  So came here thinking its a hack.  ( and being a newish site why would you want to go ahead and let traders know our site was hacked?  Best to just explain it some other way.

Hope that clears things up. :-)

To me it sounds like they're running on a shared environment and someone screwed up...

Nothing sinister.
