Hello again everyone,

I made a thread here about a year or so ago showcasing the very very early version of adlist.co.nz, since then (and about 20 revisions later) we are ready to take Pre-alpha registration for people willing to test us out! To show you guys the new look, and how things are going to function, we have chucked up the very latest (albeit neutered) version of the script.

Our goal is to hit 250 registered alpha testers before rolling out all of the software (which we plan to do in pieces), so feel free to jump in and play with anything. We will be launching the forum for support and bug submissions within the next two weeks. Further we will be rolling out the android and ios applications, and showcasing our REST api in the coming few months for you all to play around with.

The pivot for us has been to create a website where Kiwis can search for things not just in categories, but also geolocation (within 50k of me, within 50k of town etc) as well as by barcode (using the barcode scanner in the app users can quickly list things without worrying about specific details, as well as find things by barcode for price comparison). We have many many innovative ideas we want to test before we launch.

Please for now use this thread, or pm me, if you want to get in contact about anything!

Thanks in advance!

Alex

Also menu doesn't display anything.

Hay mate,

The menu is intentionally blank (until we can start rolling out all the things we need to roll out).

Fixed page scroll (might need to reload a couple times)!

Cheers for the feedback!

Alex

Another bug, you have some random text being displayed, I'm assuming it's part of the template that isn't being rendered.

Hay again,

Yeah thats just standard template elements {} will wrap anything that should have something cool but has been neutered until testing.

I've blanked that one now.

Cheers again mate!

Also anyone who signed up to the original adlist will be able to use their same account, we transferred all user data over.

Hay again all,

Seeing as we haven't launched the blog portion of AdList yet, we thought we might give you some hints as to how we want to be different. Many companies in the niche rushed a script to market in an attempt to gain critical mass before sorting out their major and fundamental differences and competencies. AdList's strategic plan however involves the continual development of primarily software to aid both businesses and general users in buying and selling as efficiently and easily as possible. There are a few things we have completely decided on, which we plan on telling you all about via our blog, however to tide you over we have decided to tell you about the main major thing everyone wants to know; What will AdList cost?

Most recently we have finalized what we believe is a fair and reasonable fee structure:

  • Default ads will be free to list, or $10 per month for more than 100 in that period

    • A default ad is a 1x1 box for a maximum of two weeks
  • Ad upgrades such as enlarging your ad, or listing for more than two weeks will increase in increments of $1.00

    • A Default 1x1 ad for 4 weeks would cost $1 (default + extra 2 weeks) while a 2x2 ad (4x as big as the default) would cost an extra $3 for the first two weeks and $4 each fortnight thereafter. Dont worry, we have made the listing process tell you on the fly exactly what everything will cost.
  • Success fees

    • AdList will be able to handle the payments for your ads, success fees would cover the cost of this transaction. This is optional; if you do not wish to allow AdList to handle payments there will be no success fee which would disallow your ad from being added to our cart and multi-buy system.
  • Premium ads

    • AdList may allow premium ads in future, however at present the only way to upgrade your ad is by making it bigger or listing it for longer
Thats it, let us know what you think!

Cheers
Alex

Neigh!

Back on topic, I know you said above the menus are blank, but it makes it awfully hard to get a feel for site navigation. To be honest, with the current state and layout, it feels very unusable and looks decidedly amateur. How far from an actual production-ready mockup are you?

*Hey* mate,

As you can imagine, we have a few major components that are still being worked on. The idea with removing the menu was that we could control what we show as we test and ensure it works. But you are right, it makes it very hard to check out any of the website; So our goal for today is to show at least a couple parts of the menu so you can take a proper look around.

Cheers for the feedback, we are trying our best to make things as smooth as possible before we soft lauch. So we really do appreciate your feedback!

Alex

I can't log in, but I'm excited to see how this turns out.  It already looks better than Wheedles first attempt! :)

I tried to register again, but the username I used was already in use, but was unable to login via the login button.  Obviously tried when you guys brought the idea to the forum before.  All good! Keep us posted with updates.

EDIT:  Nevermind!  Managed to log in.  Apparently I was getting my password wrong.  Such a flattering drawing of Kim Jong Un you have on the front page there.  Haha :)

Thanks mate,

I was just about to push the forgot password section, I guess now we can get back to the menus first!

Hey all,

Update: 21 July:

We have decided not to include the entire header from the development version of the script just yet, however to make navigation a little easier we have added a few links to sections of the site ready to test (namely our support forum, and the create listing page).

  • Support forum is now operational while logged in
  • Navigation will be updated as new sections begin testing
  • Creation of listings is possible (dont worry it will not charge you right now, we have opened this section purely for testing)
  • New created listings will display on the frontpage! But if you do experience any bugs, or thing something needs to be changed, please let us know in the support forums!
Thanks again!

Alex

Hey all,

Update 25 july:

We have pushed the listing process almost entirely, the adlist motors section we have just finished gathering details to make listing a car easier, no more of that entering every single detail about your vehicle, adlist will do all that with a make, model, year and type (unless obviously those are wrong, in which case you can edit them).

AdList property is still under construction, we want to launch with at least comparable listing standards to trademe where they can offer up information that qv.co.nz shows them. Finally we plan to push details trees (for filter searches) by sunday which should complete the general item listing process.

Please do come check us out and give us your opinion, we are working on things right now and your idea might just give us the edge we need!

Thanks again

Alex
