I am setting this website up because when you go fishing on a bar and the bar is rough you sit there refreshing the page watching the webcams to see if other people are going fishing.

I plan to have the webpage so locals will communicate with live chat and can offer advice for newb bar crosses through chat on the page with the weather included.

My question is can I use the code off a website and embed the cam into mine or do i need permission? This is the page it will be the same with a chat box on the side and tides and weather down the bottom.

In the end it will include all bars in New Zealand and if I can get it to work the world. The website is

Should I email each webcam owner. In the first case 'Foxton' I found out that Thin Air runs the webcam and the fishing shop has it embeded on their site as a photo not steaming video, but they have a link to Thin Air 'the cam owner'

You can see the fishing shops page here:

I see he has links to all the webcam owners. How does it work? can the webcam owner just block my ip on the server when they see traffic coming in?

Whats the law on webcam? same copyright as videos?

Yeah you should email them and ask if you can embed their video into your site.

If it's for a community site I doubt they'd mind.

If your site is commercial people understandably tend to get cranky if you are framing their content into your site effectively using their hosting/bandwidth for your own profit.

Thanks for that,

I did email the owner and he was happy with my offer of a banner ad.

I must say when ever I am stuck this site has always helped, some great people on it cool

In regards to the Foxton cam contact the Boat Club (Manawatu Marine Boat  Club). They own that camera, Thinair (now Rural Wireless) just provide the backhaul for it.
