Well, I moved to Skinny a few months ago with a $2 sim, all was good for me (got the 1st $16 stretch free and with 1000 skinny to skinny mins per month free too). So I think it is a good time to get a $2 sim for my wife, who is already on skinny, and get the $16 combo, so that she can have the 1000 skinny to skinny mins free two.

Well, that was my wishful thinking...

So, here was what I did:

  1. bought a $2 sim on skinny.co.nz.  Sweet, no problem, got it delivered to office.
  2. I read the instruction three times.  It said she (I) should not active the card, but login to skinny.co.nz to do a SIM swap instead.
  3. I logged on as her, do a SIM swap online.  The portal said put the new SIM card to the phone and wait for 10 mins for a notification SMS to indicate its done.
  4. After more than 10 mins, no text.  However, I can call her (the new SIM card in her phone), and text her, so all seems good.
  5. Because it is night time, I gave her all the instruction needed for her to call 0800 4 SKINNY this morning.  She understood what needs to be done.
  6. This morning, she called skinny after 25mins on hold.  Old weekly addon and combo cancelled by staff.  Sweet.  New $16 stretch added (not free, as per the T&C because she is not porting a number to Skinny), sweet.  Operator said it will take 1 hour for the 1000 skinny to skinny mins bonus to kick in.  This was around 2:30 pm today (Dec 10)
  7. More than an hour later, the bonus did not show up.  So she called at around 4:30 pm again.
  8. The operator seems to confused with all the free $16 stuff vs the 1000 free mins stuff.  Anyway, promised to call back by her manager at 17:30.
  9. No phone call as of now (18:10), and no bonus add on.

Paul / Mr Skinny, can you help?  Please...

The free minutes is linked to the number that came with the sim, So if you sim swapped (changed the number on the sim) it stops

They need to re add you to the promo list so it starts working again

I had the same problem. They said they fixed it the first time but it hadn't worked, Then eventually got it fixed

Messaging them on facebook is a good way to get help

She was on the $4 a week combo before SIM swap, so no free minutes were linked to the previous SIM.  =-)

Correct, she will need to move to the $16 combo to get them, however

What I meant was, The new sim usually comes with the free skinny minutes, However because you swapped her old account to the new sim, it no longer works

They can fix it for you though

Logged the problem via skinny.co.nz last night. Heard nothing from them today. The promised phone call never arrive. Not impressed.

If this is a new promotion, I can understand this might be a teething problem.  However, I believe this promotion has been around for a couple of months now and I just cannot understand why they cannot get it right even after two days.

PMed Mr. Skinny a.k.a. Paul and hopefully he can help me to fix the problem. Incident raised on Wed 11th Dec but heard nothing back apart from an automated email response. Wife checked the spam folder and she is sure no skinny email ended up there.

Thanks!  Got the bonus minutes now, thanks!

Hopefully the bonus minutes will stay when the $16 Stretch renews next month.  =-)
