Today someone called and left a voice message. I called 222 to check it only to hear "you dont have enough credit". Thought that was odd so I called my friend since my plan showed I have 50 mins left. I called him fine, still couldnt get through to 222. Had to top up($5 min) and have additional credit on my account, apart from the minutes my plan gives me just to check my messages on skinny. Whats up with that?

Calling voicemail costs 18c (per call, not per minute). It doesn't come out of your minutes.

@kendo Yes all covered on the skinny website if you are not on a plan that includes calls to Voicemail then 18 cents per call

https://www.skinny.co.nz/pricing/rates/

Voicemail rates

You’'ll be charged 18c per call to our voicemail service, regardless of if you’'re on standard rates or a Combo (except the $46 Combo).

Change to the voicemail that doesnt let people leave messages and not have to deal with it again.

Voicemail is free with Skinny Direct. One of the Skinny Direct combos may suit your usage better.

@kendo why is it terrible? They make the charges clear and Voicemail platforms are not free to run

Trick I saw elsewhere
Try using the "check voicemail from another number option".  eg land line etc
https://support.skinny.co.nz/article.php?id=51

specifically >> "You can check your voicemail by dialling 222 from your Skinny mobile or 0204VOICEM from another number."
Haven't checked but I think 0204VOICEM = 0204 864236

Unless skinny has some smarts in their network then it should work and use your allocated minutes

I just tried that from my Skinny phone. It deducted 18c.

NOTE: I'm not a skinny user but I have seen that trick used elsewhere other networks/countries

It might need the country code added to it.

failing that I guess the skinny network does have some smarts built into it

I dialed the number as +64, so that doesn't help unfortunately.

Simple Fix Setup a 2talk or ISP provided SIP service or similar account and setup Call Forwarding on your cell for when busy, when unanswered, when unreachable. Has more features and also gives you the option to pickup from another device.
