That's right, you can now pay off a phone over 24 months on Skinny Direct, Including the Samsung S8, Samsung Note 8, iPhone 8 and more on the $30, $50 or $79 plans available at https://www.skinnydirect.co.nz

This was quite suprising to me, I thought they would leave that to Spark

Not usually prepay carriers in New Zealand.

Yeah, it's quite surprising because this is their parent companies market they're treading in to. And some alternative deals, for example you can pay $50 on Skinny to get 10GB data and unlimited calling and texting, or $59 on Spark and get 4GB (Plus 1 bonus GB for a year), unlimited minutes, Spotify and Lightbox. It brings more choice. EG don't want Spotify? Now you can get more data on Skinny and still be able to pay off your phone

It's prepaid as in it bills your Debit or Credit card at the start of each month, There is a credit check when you sign up

What happens if the person ports there number out and cancels the credit card I suppose they would just blacklist the phone

The credit card account will still be charged – you don't free yourself of obligations just by cancelling a card. The bank would then just chase you up and it'd become a debt between you and the bank, not between you and Skinny.

Oh so you would need proof of address to get this (prepay accounts don't have address details)

They'll have their basis covered. Trust me...You can still hire debt collection without a proof of address as often collectors will track you down however way possible.
