Will Skinny’s 4G broadband eventually become available in non urban areas?
I’d love to be able to reduce my wireless broadband costs.

Also, I know the modem is locked to the Skinny network. Is it possible to use a non skinny 4G modem with the service?

I do t know about the first, but Skinny are very adamant on only allowing their own modems to connect (and you have to buy one, no matter what!)

Yes, network is segmented; sim and IEMI locked.

My parents are in a rural delivery area 40 minutes out of Christchurch, and they just had a 4G mast go up nearby.

Spark didn't waste any time asking them to switch from a fixed landline to wireless broadband + VOIP, and I see Skinny also list their address as eligible for wireless broadband now too.

Apparently Skinny is in no hurry to get customer allocations on rural towers. (I queried my address which is able to get Spark Wireless but not Skinny)

So at the moment it doesn't sound promising. The more we query services the more pressure they'll have though!
