So I moved into a new place about a month ago and before I moved in I noticed the power was off and organised to have it turned on again. No problems there.

I received my first bill the other day and noticed the wrong unit number was on the bill (there are four units on this property). I contacted the power company who have done a 'wrong move in reversal' so I don't owe that power bill but my problem is I have no idea how to find the ICP number. I would have hoped the contractor who turned the power on might have fed that information back to them but apparently not, or if he did, he got it wrong.

I have taken a photo of the meter for my property and looked all over it for an ICP but can't find it. I also read out what various numbers were on the meter to the power company but none of them came up with anything and when they search the database for my unit number they also can't find anything.

Tempted as I am to just ignore it and have free power I know that'll just bite me sooner or later so I want to get this sorted. Anybody know any tricks for finding out that ICP number?

Maybe ask the previous owner if they can look up the ICP number on one of their bills?

Oh yeah so the landlord used to live there a few years ago so I've asked if they have anything. 

As for the previous tennant, they let the power get disconnected and seem to have disappeared so that's a dead end.

Not your problem. I didn't have one when signed up at new address recently, just gave my address and they (Mercury) sorted everything out.

Give them the details you have and if they can't go off that perhaps look at a different power company.

we we moved into our current place, the agent did not have the ICP number handy, however he offered to go down and get it for us, if we were not able to.

Being all of 5 mins away from the place, we just went down there, noted it down (it was all nicely on a tag in the meterbox).

While there, our (soon to be new) neighbours came out, Made sure we had all the details we needed and we were away.

In our case, the power company could not find our meter at the address, when giving them the ICP number, they obviously did something wrong as between the time of 3 different phonecalls, they went from we cant find that you need to go check it again, to oh yes here it is, it was under the wrong listing. - Hopefully that wont crop up again for the next people..

Old Tenants letting the power go out completely? thats a pain! I suppose power company charged you for a reconnection on that?
