I have customer who finally (after 7 weeks of incompetence at best, obstructiveness at worst) got their Import/export meter fitted by the retailer. In 7 1/2 days they have produced & used $115 worth of electricity in Auckland - & as cricket fans will know Saturday was a bit of a washout. They & we are absolutely stoked.

9.5 kW of Modules, 10kW 3Phase Inverter. They selected a low cost Inverter so I'm not even convinced that they are getting all they could out of a better one. Roof is a black bitumen tile roll so Module Temp also will be throttling output slightly i this hot weather. Still estimating 11% or so ROI.

Do they have any high demand during the day, such as cooking or air con?
Or is their focus just on selling the unused generated power back to the grid?

That's quite a good setup .. what kWh numbers export are they getting per week ?  And what rate are they selling at ?

My place has 4kWh of panels and I get this for the past 30 days:

Import price Export price
$0.27          $0.17

Total House Use      From solar       From grid      Exported
606                       379                 227              231

They are not really exporting anything..that was never the plan. Very high users, running air-con, swimming & spa heating, large house with home office etc. System was switched on around mid-day on 15th Jan, on 20th Jan they had a power cut for 2 hours in the middle of day so no production.
Production up until noon today (24th) is 455kWh. Their buy price (including Gst & on time payment discount) is 26.5c kWh. The Inverter has a slightly higher required start up & shut down Voltage than others, so production starts slightly later & finishes slightly earlier than most of our our other recently installed Systems.
We are building up a good equipment comparison database with different Module/Inverter combinations..it really does make a big difference.
I can retrospectively track clouds across the upper North Island too, which is quite fun!

Good stuff - does that mean your PV system has produced 610kWh? What gear have you got..what part of NZ?

Yes 610kWh in the past 30 days.  It's the Vector Sun Genie setup ... working out quite well for us, coasted through lots of outages with not even a blink!

I live up in Mangawhai.

Yeah, the storage aspect of Genie is pretty good - I don't think they offer it any more for some reason. What are the financials around it - do you buy or lease?

We have a System at Mangawhai that  has produced 530kWh for the 31 days including yesterday - 3.18 kW of Hyundai Mono Modules with a 4kW Enasolar Inverter so very pleased with that combination for output.

I'm leasing it, so was $2400 to install then $92 a month rental.  Not had it in long enough yet to see how it's long term performance is panning out, but since we've been in this house (since last february) we've had a least one short grid outage a month and a couple of day long outages, so for that alone it's worth it :-)
