Our bathroom is looking pretty tired and needs a re-fresh. Nothing structural (I hope!) but a new vanity, towel rail, mirror, heating, etc.  Are there any recommendations as to who to use to help, like BathroomDirect, Parke and Clarke, etc? I can't bang in a nail straight to save myself so looking for someone to do everything from go to whoa. While cost is not a big factor, I equally don't want some weird, expensive design from a glossy magazine. Thoughts?

Option 1.

If cost is no subject (such that you don't mind moving your plumbing and power points around), start with floor plan of your existing bathrooms. Note where the door and windows are. Play around with the layout, i.e. where you want your bath and showers, toilet, vanity, heated tower rail etc.

Choose the shape and sizes of all these fittings so it is both practical and proportional. Then finish off with location of lighting fixtures (task lighting and general illumination).

Third is than production selection, one that looks good, is of quality, and you can source.

Lastly, take all this to a builder(s) who specialises in renovations (that have their own set of plumbers, electricians, tilers, water proofers) and get a quote. This way, if you don't like them or their quote, go to someone else with the exact specifications.

Option 2.

Outsource the whole job including design, and just review the proposals.

Option 3 - use the experienced build we used who came up with a better design than the so-called specialist mob who refused to deal with us when I refused to have a tiled shower. PM if you want their details and you are in Wellington - they aren't cheap but they are excellent with transparent pricing and have an eye for this sort of design.

Our bathroom was the same footprint - but I wanted a big spa bath and to move the WC from being the first thing you saw when you entered the room. As we were removing Dux Quest piping we were always going to gut the room anyway.

Park and Clarke are very good and been in the business for a very long time. I knew the founder Trevor Park he  was an good guy and heavily involved in the master plumbers and traded with integrity.
