I've been a very happy powershop customer for 8 months, but they (today) made changes to how the app functions that to me are such a turn off I'm wondering if there is another provider I could look into who offers an app that i can buy power and monitor usage from?

They removed the number of units that one is actually purchasing when buying power packs. So now instead of saying 60 units at 25.3c/unit for example... Both figures are omitted in favour of "worth" and "days worth". As prices fluctuate seasonally, etc, worth is only what it's worth the day you buy it then as prices shift it stops being relevant.

Also they now charge daily line charges - and these changes conceal the actual unit cost, so i no longer have any clue how much I'm really paying for my power apart from the grand total.

I thought Powershop would have a large uptake amongst GZ members, was expecting a few comments.

As an analogy, imagine the "outrage" you'd get in the petrol market if all petrol stations in NZ removed the $191.9 (cents a litre) from their signs, and when you went to the pump they had removed the litres dispensed. Receipts also no longer have this information. You get $20 "worth" of petrol with no idea how many litres this is or cost per litre. Instead they put up on their signs a percentage, say -2% off standard price... But that's pretty redundant information because different petrol stations might have different prices and tomorrow price could go up but discount still -2% but you would be getting less fuel...

I just purchased the Dog Box No. 9 powerpack and can see the price per unit. I'm on iOS (app version 1.16.2). What version are you running?

App version 1.16.3 (Android).

If you go on their website and read the list of change to new app, it says we are removing units and cents per kWh from the app (and receipts and emails).

Oh yeah I see that now... must not have been released on the app store yet. I think it's one of those things that seemed good in theory.

Hopefully they bring it back in the next release, even hidden away but still available - how awesome and informative the app was was one of the reasons I switched back from Flick to Powershop.

I'm really disappointed with it. No way of knowing how much power I'm buying and what I'm being charged for it!
I always choose which of the "specials" to buy based on price per unit. Eg for me, the future packs all cost about 15% more than what I pay on average.

Price per unit is an honest metric that allows me to avoid the Briscoes type specials (power shop claim I save $500 pa off their regular prices by buying specials, but it was only around $130 off Contact energy when I last checked, so the everyday price is not fantastic)

I've been a loyal customer of Powershop for a number of years and I too think it's a poor move by them as it hides the one factor that you have to compare with other companies; the unit cost per KWH.  Over the Spring and Autumn days in particular the amount of power I use fluctuates heavily; how are they calculating the "Number of Days" power?  If based on an average, which average?

I understand that they maybe want to make it "easier" for some, but this for me has taken away a key piece of information.

Powershop... If you are watching this thread, please either bring back the unit price or give us the ability to see the unit price.

I'm sure @freitasm has contacts at Powershop, it would be interesting to hear from them (or Mauricio).

Another problem I had is that all days prior to the current month now display a totally flat daily usage ie entire month usage has been averaged over the 30 or so days of that month. Hourly graphs still remain when you click the daily columns.

Geese: App version 1.16.3 (Android).

Where exactly? I am running 1.16.3 Android and still see price per unit.

This is the problem, power packs do not give you accurate idea as to the 'rate' you are buying them at.

The OP says "So now instead of saying 60 units at 25.3c/unit for example... Both figures are omitted in favour of "worth" and "days worth"." but this is what I am seeing:

How does it appear on their website? I wonder if they are transferring clients slowly? As I only see my power packs online and with the app as per my screenshots.

They are not the best 2 examples, but compared to above 2 pics by rscole86 you can see the difference.

As I said, their website says they are removing reference to units and c/kWh.

I just logged in online, something I rarely do, and there is no unit or c/kWh info there either now.

freitasm:

Your screenshots both show cost per unit.

Sorry people are replying faster than I can keep up. Those screenshots I put up are to show how it used to be...
As rscole added photos of how it is now in the update... so compare his 2 and my 2 to see new vs old.
