Info from EK. If you're still seeing this problem contact them for a fix, but it shouldn't be happening widely.

All in all a good response, quite quickly.

"The metering company who own and manages your meter, Metrix have advised that there is a time shift issue with the type of meter which they have installed at your property. They don’t have the ability to send us corrected data so to rectify this issue for you we have shifted your data to bring your data inline and our system will now automatically apply the correction for Metrix going forward.

We have made this adjustment for other people's accounts with your meter type as we receive a report but for some reason your meter didn't come up on it. Metrix are also investigating so that this process is even more watertight. I have run a quick query and can see that our records show that there is 0.76% of these meter types."

Well done to Electric Kiwi for following that up. I am happy EK customer & have no intention of shopping around with spot pricing / peak & off peak pricing. I will ceratinly stay with them in the long term and hopefully that kind of loyalty from EK customers will keep there pricing competitive & the promp service albiet web based.

Good work EK.

Now that I looked at timmmay's graphs again I realise that I wasn't getting the same thing :)

I'm sorry, but, what is the sole reason for the metering company?

True. It sounds like the metering company focus more on the physical than the information, whereas EK has a more flexible platform and a more technical focus.

I wonder if your billing was correct when with Flick ?  If you were paying peak & off peak rates & the same 30min offset applied with your meter as viewed by Flick.

I believe it was correct with Flick - I've lost access to the detailed dashboard but I have a spreadsheet somewhere. I had hot water turning on at a specific time, and when I looked at the graphs it correlated to the time I expected. With Flick it was less critical than EK because the exact time wasn't all that important, whereas with the EK hour of power you want it to be accurate.

I've just signed up with EK myself after a) hearing good things here and other forums and b) powerswitch.org.nz said they'd be the cheapest for me.

They've already failed to match one of their promises. They said it'd take 1-10 business days to get connected but it only took them 5 hours :-) They've set my expectations pretty high now; I hope they continue to exceed them.

I'm sure you will not regret your switch to EK.

It appears EK has fixed and adjusted my usage readings so that they're no longer 1/2 hour off. The adjustments are backdated to the oldest unbilled period.

But EK hasn't sent me any notifications or emails about this change.

@timmmay Are you seeing this too?

Yes, everything seems backdated.

I spoke to EK (through the chat thing in my account) a few weeks ago about how the graph of usage showed the same identical activity for four days in a row, one of which I wasnt even at home. I was toild that th egraph does include some 'estimate data' for recent days and it gets updated at some point or another. Eventually the graph changed and reflected what I had used. Since then Ive looked every now and then to see what usage is occuring while I'm at work so I can better plan the free hour of power (wife and baby at home all day). Here is the graph for the last week of June

I have a tiny house so my usage isn't sky high but take a look at the middle which is June 27th, the highest usage of all. What is interesting here is that on that day my neighbour started to have a giant Norfolk Pine removed, a huge task which still isn't completed but for the top half involved vector removing the power lines to allow a crane to come down the road. From around 7am to just after 7pm my house wasn't even connected to the grid. so this isnt like a distpute in my useage, it's just plain wrong on all counts. I will be interested to see how long it takes EK to rectify now that I have pointed this out and it also makes me wonder just how accurate the other days are.

Here are some pictures of the day

the crane going up at the start of the day

here you can see the little bag on the line pole on the left that verctore used to cover where the line which crossed the road to my house had been removed from

what was left at the end of the day. work stalled as vector had to put the power lines back up so the rest being done by hand has to be planned as some branches are above the power lines on my driveway.

I would be interested to know if they decide they need to send a tech out to update the meter. Because they shouldn't be out of time sync.

Correcting data isn't normally done by the metering companies in NZ, unless the data is completely missing. The larger retailers do a lot of that themselves because they also apply various rates & discounts over the top of it.

The graph doesn't show what usage is estimated and what's an actual read. Which they should make clearer. It's not uncommon for meters to have to catch-up data for a time period for a number of different reasons.

It's possible the day that's included is estimated it's just not obvious that it is.

If your meter has an LCD display, which most should, manually reading your meter is useful if there is a dispute - take a photo and record the numbers & the time of the reading.

9 days since we switched to EK (although it's actually 11 it seems) and we are averaging just shy of $10 spending per day. This is fantastic compared to our spending on Flick. Our usage has returned to pre-winter-blow-out rates (towel rails back on, living areas are heated everyday, food is actually being cooked again, clothes are being washed again, hot water is always on again) but thanks to the set price and hour of power our daily cost is exactly where we wanted it to be. Have managed 18.4% on Tuesday this week during the hour of power. Very happy with the move so far! Will have to do some serious crunching come spring to see if we stay for the long haul.
