As the electricity market is acting weird because more generation is needed. But no one wants to commit to building any major new generators. As they are worried that the Tiwai ali smelter will close down, and ruin the business case for building more generation.

There are also swap type agreements between the owner of the Huntly coal generator. And another one with the power supplier to the Tiwai smelter. I will have to locate more details about these agreements. But some of those companies must be regretting that they entered into them. As they would have had to supply power under those agreements that they could have instead sold on the spot market for far more.

Have there been any big power company failures since NGC of 2004 or so?
