So this sort of thing keeps appearing on my feeds, wondering if it's suitable for home security, and how to set it up if it's suitable. Connect to an old laptop?

Those ones are good for things like watching a 3d printer or keeping an eye on a dog etc. Not really for security since placing for that would be hard with it not having a proper mount, needing a USB for power instead of properly wiring in and the bracket looking like it would take one well-thrown fruit at it to have it fall off.
