Hi,

We need a modular wardrobe organiser style system but the only one I can find is the Elfa system at Mitre 10 which seems ridiculously expensive. I wish we could get the Ikea system here!

Did anyone else manage to find a more economical solution?

Thanks

Bunnings have a similar system at a lower but still far too high for what it is price. Have to use the annoying top rail since the shelves are not made for exact 600mm stud spacing. See some sag in the top rail of mine where its pulling out a little from the weight of the verticals pulling down on it.

Boston Wardrobes (firm) built us a great St of wardrobes. Not diy and probably not cheap, $7700 in 2012 for custom designed about 4.5m wide by 3m high. Includes deep drawers, pull out mirror, and different his and hers sides. They look new still. Totally worth it.

Get some customwood panels and build your own bespoke system. The modular ones are ridiculously priced.

But the the Elfa system is so versatile and we've used in the garage, the bedroom and laundry.

When we lived in the UK, the closest we ever got to an IKEA store was the carpark... far too busy. We gave up and went to John Lewis.

We got the Elfa system for master bedroom walk-in wardrobe. Yes it’s expensive but it’s good quality, and the modular nature makes it easy to configure and even change around afterwards as we have lately done. Easy to install with just the one horizontal hanger securely bolted into studs at top of wall and everything just hangs off that. We bought ours when it was a bit discounted (20% off perhaps).

Cheers,
Joseph

Thanks all. I think I will try the Mitre 10 system but keep it basic at first.

If you're Auckland based, check out Cab Jacks as an option.
