All dryers will have a thermal cutout - so if the vent won't open and it gets too hot, it will stop running. This is also why many old dryers 'die' - lint builds up around the thermal sensor, so a simple clean will 'fix' them.

Cut the hose to say 1m long, which will make installation easier. Then it will concertina down to 200mm once you fit everything in place

what is the best way to place a weather tight 100mm straight through wall vent through 1960s bevelback timber weatherboard external wall, when the gap between the weatherboards is the same width as the hole?

cool, i found a video on marking out some scribing for the sides so should be easy.

do i need to do flashing as well would i edge some flashing into the gap between the two weatherboards above the box and run it down and onto the box?

I've just measured where the exhaust will be coming out the wall and it's actually just 10cm or so below the eave/soffit and I have quite wide eaves.

It's also in a very sheltered side of the house, this means whatever waterproofing method I use it probably won't even get wet which is quite reassuring.

Added bracing to wall in laundry

Replaced gibboard with a piece of ply to give the wall and extra bracing more support

Hung dryer on wall

Cut hole straight through wall

Made a scribed box

Wouldn't want to DIY this project again took me 2 days!!
