Spark I don’t seem to have success with posting a photo of the pump but have described it in an earlier post.

The tanks are two 30,000L tanks which sit right next to the pump pretty much.

Pump is now off. I can’t believe the previous owners would just put up with that!

Sounds like you either have some grit in the pump that is preventing pump turning off, a slow leak somewhere or pressure tank needs serviced. But on / off sounds like a classic pressure tank issue.

Some people can put up with the on / off pump noise! I had a issue where sometimes pump would not turn off. That turned out to be grit and cost me the pump! Melt down.

We had a similar situation when we moved into our house. There was a BAD water leak, pump constantly turning on and off. I have no idea how the previous owners put up with it, or how big their power bill was from the pump running most of the day. Baffling.

Maybe check your toilet and see if it's internal leaking.

We have a waterpump in the garage so the sound of it isn't an issue. There isn't a header tank either.  But we recently got a pressure tank to install on it, so it wouldn't go each time the tap was turned on, so are going to see how that goes when it gets installed. A pity some plumbers aren't really that knowledgeable with water harvesting and home pumps etc, as the plumber we used when it was put in din't know very much, but that was a good 10 years ago. Have had to just replace the pump as well, but I guess 10 years for a pump isn't bad.  Are also going to install things like a first flush system, as currently all the crap on the roof, including dead birds, ends up in the tank, because the installers didn't even install mesh covers over the downpipe tops.

Have googled that, and that only links to the details about the pressure tank. Nothing about what actual pump you have. (as well as lots and lots of results for navigation devices).

We are on rain water. 2 big tanks, one pump. The water pressure in the shower  was shocking.

Also, there is nothing between the tanks and the taps, treatment or filter wise.

I suspect you were used to mains, I doubt it's shocking. Get a booster pump - Trademe have a number of people selling them. They work brilliantly.

As for tanks, we chlorinated them and had a stocking (changed regularly) over the outlet into tanks.
