We purchased a 1acre property a few years ago. Still live here now.  We're very lucky in that the back half of the section, 1/3 of it my boundary neighbour "looks after" for me, in that he mows it, he tends to the plants and he even planted some avocado trees there. His house is right on our boundry border, so he doesn't have any lawn of his own, so he just borrows ours in a friendly agreement. Works well.

The other 2/3s of it, we have a lady who does dog show jumping training and her deal she gets to turn up and train dogs on the back section, as long as she mows it.

So we've only got to look after 2,000sqm of land, not 4,000.

That said: DO NOT GET A PUSH MOWER TO DO IT! I bought a "wide cut, self propelled" mower and it's great, but it's just the time it takes to do it all.  I'm somewhat unlucky in that our section borders 3 roads, so I end up having to mow the verge of those too.

But I mean a push mower does it fine.  It works, and in fact I got a push mower because I have 9 separate lawns to mow, it's not just one big wide space.  A ride one would be good but there's a lot of fiddly bits I'd miss. I hated that I was spending ~2 hours every other weekend mowing lawns instead of hanging out with my kids.

In the end, I just hired someone to come and do it for me.  I still do some of the verges myself on the weekends, but I don't feel pressure to do those like you do when the front yard weeds are knee high and staring at you from your lounge room.

If you don't have kids, or they've moved out, or you hate them and don't want to spend time with them, by all means.  It's great exercise and perfectly doable, take a break halfway through, drink lots of water.  Get a nice widecut and off you go.

But really don't do it. Get a rideon or a sheep.

Possible yes. It will take ages.

I used to mow a 1/4 acre with a normal mower would take about an hour.

If you are removing clippings then i rekon it could take you a few hours.

One original definition of an acre was "the area that can be cut in a day with a scythe"

I'm sure you can do it with a push mower - but I'd expect that you would not be much faster

Why not buy a squadron of robo-mowers and sit back and relax? šŸ˜€

You can get a robot that does an acre, for about the price of a half-decent ride on. You should look at that before buying your ride on. I wish Iā€™d got a robot from the start.
