MadEngineer: If you come to a brick wall with your insurance ask if they can provide a compassionate payout. Workmate had this with a slow leak and they were paid out at 50%.
Our policy had a maximum cap on a payout for "gradual damage" and it wasn't very high (only about $1500 from memory) - other companies probably have similar clauses. That's possibly what your workmate came up against.
The OP should have better success since it was from a sudden and obvious event.
yep we have up to $2000 for hidden water issues but this was an obvious failure and we're now in the claim process with the AA; have got chemdry out with fans and dehumidifiers before the assessors come out.
