Thanks for your suggestions. I went and got some decent ones from Briscoes. Bonus as they were half price! The landlord has paid for them. I did go and buy my own fabric lining though just as extra protection from the sun and what not. If I move out, I can detach it and take it with me or sell/gift to my landlord.

A bit late to comment now since you’ve bought some. I was going to suggest Briscoes when they have their half price sale and specifically to get ones called Habitat Florentine. They are what’s called triple weave which means they have three fused layers of fabric with black in the middle. They are excellent as blackout curtains and they don’t powder like the coated ones. Theyare also strong and fully washable. If you like this idea and haven’t put the new ones up yet, I am sure they will exchange them.

The other thing to consider if you have a community services card is getting free ones from the curtain bank at the Sustainability Trust if you have one in your area. Your community services card can also be financially helpful to your landlord should he need to put in heating or insulation...it could make you super popular with him.

Haha it’s funny you should say that as I did get triple weave curtains (Fusion Textures: Dusk). I was so put off by the original thermal curtains disintegrating that I didn’t want to risk getting them. The detachable lining is also triple weave. Time will tell if they stop my room getting unbearably hot in summer. It’s already getting pretty warm in the afternoons and I can see the temperature going up slightly on my indoor thermometer but I accept I’m never gonna have a cool bedroom in summer. I also got a pale-ish blue colour curtain with a white back, and the lining is white so that should help to reflect some of the sun/heat rather than absorb it.
