When I'm at home.

If I'm out in the morning. I'll cut it when I get home. If I'm going out in the afternoon, I'll cut it before I go out. Unless you're planning to hold the lawn bowls national championships or take the US Masters from Augusta National I wouldn't get too hung up on what time of day to cut the grass.

Not hung up about it, just lazy, so wondering if there might be an optimum time to make a chore a little bit easier 😀

When its dry as the grass is collected and done on the lowest setting. During the arvo as it's a good hour and a bit.

billgates: Summers I cut between 70-90mm so no clogs Winters I plan to cut between 50 to 60mm and I expect the mower (Ego battery) to handle it fine as well without clogging. I mow either afternoons (hat) or evenings after 6PM as plenty of daylight left in summer. My skin is brown so that helps with no sunscreen for short periods of work outdoors when I mow in afternoon hehe.

I am about the same. In June 2020 we had a new 'Ready to Lay" lawn put in with pop-up sprinklers. The total lawn area is 25 Sq/M of Tall Fescue which is the preferred grass for Tauranga. It takes about 15-20mins to; setup, mow, empty 1 catcher and put away.

I let it grow to >70 and mow at >50 which is my top setting for our corded Flymo Chevron 34VC mower.

The biggest tip I have learnt is to ensure your blade is Sharp but not razor sharp. The grass recovers quicker and healthier from a straight clean cut as opposed to being torn/ripped. You will know when you have a bad blade when the tips of the grass go brown very quickly. Also don't water every day as the roots then wont grow downwards to where the moisture is so wont become established thereby letting the weeds to take over.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

With the old mower, I went for when the wind was strong, then I didn't need a catcher and blew over the neighbours instead. Now with my crappy Ryobi (post purchase regret based on reviews) I just use the mulch option and its as if the grass just disappears.

l feel in Aotearoa we tend to cut lawns way too short. This stresses the plants and promotes weed growth. In the summer I allow the grass and to flower to help the bees. We usually have the blade height set about half. We mulch a and hard rake to deal with thatching. We mow lawns at a time that does not annoy folks around us and avoid doing the lawns if the neighbours are dinning outside and alike.
