Eva888: Am also concerned about any toxicity since most of Bunnings adhesives have ominous warnings on them and so was looking more for water rather than solvent based.
It needs to be flexible rather than dry stiff. Thought of vulcanised type adhesives or something used on vehicles. What about tile adhesive...that appears rubbery but is it toxic.
Anything water-based won't have much of a hope of holding something like this together, and in terms of solvent-based stuff you only get fumes until the solvent evaporates and/or the glue cures, so it pretty much sorts itself out.
If you want a flexible glue you could try styrene butadiene rubber glues, of which the only non-industrial source I know is B7000, a.k.a. Chinese cellphone glue. SBR is a synthetic rubber and will glue all sorts of stuff that standard glues can't deal with.
However at some point you're going to run into the law of diminishing returns, if it's just for a guest bed then it may just be easier to get a replacement topper of the correct size off Trademe, or skip the topper entirely.
Eva888: Looked up the styrene glues and they appear to be sold in bulk.
Yeah, that's the problem with that stuff, it's usually only used commercially/industrially, however if you buy it as B7000 on Aliexpress or, if you're in a hurry, Trademe, you can get it for a few dollars a tube (more on TM). The downside is that there's lots of stuff sold as B7000 on Ali/TM that may not all be the same. So if you're not in a hurry get the cheapest tube you can find on Aliexpress and test a bit of that before sinking a lot of money into it.
If you can track down some Konishi Bond プラスチックthat's definitely SBR, Daiso shops used to sell it but they haven't had any for some time now.

You don't know what a mattress topper is?
Of course - we have a mattress topper and it's some sort of thick quilting covered in soft fabric.
Great. Now imagine that but made out of latex! 😆
