what brand/model have you ordered?

just remember to install the air return. i've only seen one manufacture that mentions to do so and that was only one small line in the instructions. failure to do that can result in death, or smoking the house out.

My partner bought this one https://stovefanreviews.com/product/valiant-vanquish-250-stove-fan/

I was a bit skeptical but it's actually pretty good.

You can feel the air moving from a couple of meters away and I believe it stirs the air in the room quite a bit.

tripper1000:

My house has an high A-frame style roof with mezzanine lounge. The apex of the ceiling (2 stories up) would get to 40 deg C while the down-stairs next to the fire languished at 18 deg C. So I put a 240v fan next to my log burner to blow over it,

identical situation for me, approx 6m height from downstairs floor to the apex, all heat goes up. For years now, I am using a tripod fan (fairly decent looking - copper finish), this is in a corner of the downstairs lounge and (gently) blows air towards the ceiling, along one of the high walls. I have that powered by a cheap $5 speed controller from TradeMe to turn the speed even lower than its own lowest speed and you can barely hear it (note: always leave the fan on high speed when using an external speed controller). IT DOES NOT BLOW TOWARDS THE WOODBURNER OR THE FLUE, and that is because the flue believe it or not, as someone explained to me, is actually part of the combustion process, which starts in the woodburner and it is true that 90% of it happens there, but it continues through the flue. If the flue gets cooled down by "external forces" then the process in the flue is also slowed down and results in rapid deposits of fairly dangerous stuff inside the flue (creosote). But you clean the flue yearly anyway so this might be OK?...

ceiling fan was also on my list but it is VERY tricky to get it right especially when you have downlights in the ceiling, you do not want the blades to cast any "moving" shadows... which at higher speed will turn into a flicker effect... ideally you need to have the light below the fan level, like on a track...
