I'd get another LG in a heartbeat - it's been so good, I am considering replacing our F&P toploading washing machine with an LG front-loader.

I had a top of the line LG and I had so many problems with it, including major delays with supply of parts, that I got my money back

Just be aware that all the front loading washing machines are wider than the standard size of top loaders. So make sure you have enough room for a front loader. We would love to move to a front loader, but there is nothing that will fit where our F&P top loader does, except another F&P top loader.

The standard size of F&P top loaders varies depending on capacity. The 8.5kg is 600mm wide.

I got a bosch. Its 5 years old. I run it a LOT. Like at least twice per day.

Racks are fine.

We had a bosch and it did have some rust around some of the spikes which ended up falling off.Under the welds it was rusty so guessing the rust ate into the welds. But it was over 10 years old. I think 10 years of daily use for a dishwasher is a good life.

Bosch racks, fine after 10 years. We like the cutlery rack at the top way better than baskets. We've had to replace a door latch, a door handle, and a seal at about the 10 year mark, but it's still working well other than that.

Yes, add Bosch to your shortlist. Great lifespan.

It should be noted that the cheaper/lower grade Bosch dishwashers (and maybe their other range) are made in Turkey.

The more expensive ones are made in Germany.

We have the Series 4 Dishwasher, which is made in Turkey but no complaints so far.

That's largely what we were told by the store - made in the Haier factory and for the premium you get some more sound deadening material and maybe a couple of extra buttons/programme features.

This is not entirely true. If it's a dishdrawer, it's still designed and made by F&P either in Mexico or Thailand. If it's a standard dishwasher, it's a rebadged Chinese Haier model and has been for many years. It's a similar story for fridges - the F&P manufactured ones out of Thailand are great, the Chinese ones not so much. It's getting harder to tell which is which these days. I would still buy an F&P Dishdrawer or ActiveSmart fridge in a heartbeat - they're still great products. I don't know how long they'll keep them around though as it's cheaper to manufacture in China...

Yep, F&P still have a sizable design centre in East Tamaki in Auckland and in Dunedin with a healthy contingent of engineers and industrial designers. I believe they concentrate on designing the higher margin products here these days, and leave the cheaper products to Haier

I was actually in Noel Leeming checking out some of F&P's products.

None of them contains where it was manufactured, absolutely none.

Not even the expensive units.

That's a shame, but not exactly surprising. TBF I haven't worked there for some years and I'm sure things have changed. I feel I should point out though that when I was there, a huge amount of effort went into ensuring Haier-manufactured front-load washing machines were worthy of the F&P name. We actually did have some influence on the final product.
